So I purchased a 2006 MCS on Saturday, its got 133k on the clock and a lot of new parts. Supercharger has be replaced as well as the clutch and water pump, power steering pump and some other smaller items. The hatch and rear quarters have the typical rust which I knew going into this, what I wasn't sure of was the build date. After finding out it was 10/06 Im really hoping to have it fixed under the warranty. If it doesnt work out that way Im not crushed I purchased this as a 3rd car and plan to use it for autocross and more of a toy. Im planning on going through this vehicle and replacing many rubber parts like hoses and seals. The other thing I was wondering about is the timing chain? Before taking it out and beating on it Id like to make it as reliable as possible. Ive read a lot about the chains making noise which this 1 is not, Im thinking it wouldn't hurt to tear it down and do the guides and chain and tensioner before thrashing it around on an autocross coarse though. I dont need this car to be done this summer Id like to just get it set up the right way the first time so any more suggestions on parts to replace or mait. is very much appreciated.
With those miles that chain has seen a few revolutions so it would make since to replace if you are doing a bunch of other maintenance work as well. Mr. Blah is a member here and knows a little about prepping for AX. If he doesn't chime in, suggest you send him a PM.
