Hey all - i scooped up this oem boost/volt gauge kit on ebay and the only parts missing for install are the signal tubing (#5), the t-fit adapter (#11) and the coupling hose (#10).
Can someone please point me in the right direction to source these parts? I found this kit which includes the t-tap and coupling hose. There are two versions, a basic one and one w/ a special "anti-buzzing" restrictor. Do I need the special "anti-buzzing" version?
Also, what size hose is correct? I believe the nipple for the signal tubing on the gauge is 1/8 inches so is 3mm the correct size? I was thinking 6ft? Thanks in advance for the help!
I used the kit below from GlowShift successfully. It does include the special T-fitting with the brass restriction insert (install the gauge connection on this nipple). It works great and I like having the black hose for that stealthy install.
OH, and check that the connections on the T harness are connected correctly and well before putting it all back together. I had a weird situation where the right 1/2 of my switch bank worked and the left side didn't.
Also, I think it's recommended to disconnect the battery before you disconnect the tach. Just don't forget.
As for the T-fitting, it'd seem that either the one you found or the GlowShift that RedAggie found, will work as intended to replicate OEM spec.
I never knew about that restrictor-fitted T-connector for the boost gauge until reading an article in MC2 magazine (June-July 2010 issue) discussing the install of a used kit where the writer states:
...T-connector for the boost gauge which has an integrated restrictor that limits airflow (but not pressure) thereby reducing possible noise and needle fluctuation...
The writer also mentioned that he contacted Stewart-Warner seeking the part but it was no longer available. The writer also said that original MSRP was $325 + 1.5 hour labor install, so it was quite pricey back in the day.
I got my hose and fittings at Lowe's hardware. My gauges had clear 1/8" hose and I wanted black hose, so I just went to a regular old hardware store for the parts.
