R53 hit by train

Hello All,
About a month ago I purchase a R53 that had been hit by a train. I know... first you are thinking TOTALED! Then.... how can you get hit by a train. it not like the hit behind tree and jumped out. yea.... long story.

Fortunately only the ladder of the train hit and it and passed through the space between the strut tower and front bumper. Only casualties were wheel, tire, strut, inner fender, hood, headlights, and hood latch.

I have everything except hood and headlight, but I think I have a lock on a hood, and I think I'm going aftermarket on head lights. Xenon's are just too pricy.

I do have a few questions I'm hoping someone can help with.

I believe this is the hood switch, where what does it connect to the body/frame?

This thing is on the side of the shifter housing. any ideas?

Pretty sure the hood switch mounts to the passenger side latch.

Also, if you have not already done so, suggest you check out the below threads. In the first, Items # 14 and 15 will give you links to look up parts and wiring schematics.

thanks for the replay. I found the wiring diagram for the hood switch and even purchase a service manual. I nothing that showed the actual placement of the switch. I also found 2 wires coming from the shifter house. I think the small ring was some type of switch, maybe for the amp that is missing from the back.

Seems like it did alright, most things that get hit by trains are not recognizable afterwards.

Reminds me of Oh Brother Where Art Thou.

That cable in your hand looks like an AUX cable for plugging in an audio device, like an iPod touch or something. Possibly, the previous owner wanted to run it to the side of the shifter console.

The gray and black connectors connect to the HK amp. You’re correct, looks like someone tried connecting an aftermarket amp.

The 6 and smaller 3 or 4 pin are a trunk mounted cd changer.

Check a vin decoder to see if HK was part of the build.

Best advice for the hood latch switch would be to find someone else who owns an R53 and ask to look under their bonnet.

HK was definitely part of the build. The door speaker HK grill covers were under the seat. They now have JBL grills.
