I'm glad I switched (MC->MCS / 2004->2005) - My impressions

Well, after having my new 2005 MCS for 5 days, I'm totally over any misgivings I had about moving up from my 2004 MC. Originally, the sensible side of me had thrown up flags that upgrading so quickly was not a financially sound thing to do, however my sensible side has now been kicked in the head and left for dead by my fun side .

So, here is a comparison of my old 2004 BRG MC versus my new 2005 EB MCS:

1. The power increase is just amazing. I was happy with the power of the MC, I never really found myself in a spot where I needed more power, but the silly grin I get on my face with the MCS is about as big as it can get.

2. The MC transmission was slightly smoother to engage, however the MCS has a much nicer ratio. No longer am I up at 4k RPM on the freeway.

3. The MCS is much more forgiving with clutch work. I always felt that the MC needed so much gas to get it going smoothly.

4. It is a good thing I am young, because the MCS ride is much stiffer than my MC.

5. All of the 2005 changes are A-OK by me, except the moving of the clock. I still find myself looking up at the ambient LEDs for the time .

6. The new leatherette seats seem different, but I can't put my finger on what the change is, other than the bottom pattern change. The material is definately new.

7. The new locking glove box is very nice to have!

8. I wish I could keep myself under control during break in. I just want to floor it all the time.

9. The new steering wheel is growing on me, now when I see the old design, it looks too bulky.

10. Let the modding begin! I have already received my bonnet stripes and will be swapping over my PIAA 540s today, along ordering a Pilo intake

Sounds like you are having a blast ,congratulations! The MCS is a sensational machine right out of the box and I am still smiling every time I drive my '04 MCS with 13K troublefree miles.

Post some pics of your new toy.

It has rained every day since I picked it up (of course). Though, i guess I should be happy it hasn't snowed yet .

The BRG MC in the background is my old one

I'm very happy with my MC.....of course the fact that i haven't driven or rode in an MCS helps.

Great looking MCS...love the color.

What is the engine rpm difference at 75mph MC vs MCS is 5th or 6th gear respectively?

R.E.

I test drove an '05 MCS the other day.....................OH.....MY.....GOD!!!

Maybe I'd just gotten used to driving my Cooper a little harder, but jumping right into an MCS was a completly different experience.....more like a ride at Six Flags to be exact!!! If fact, it was downright crazy!!! I would get SO many tickets in that car. I think people who put those things on the roads are lunatics!

It was a totally different car from the '03 MCS I'd once driven...simply fantastic. I can't EVEN imagine putting a JCW kit on it......WOW!!

In the past I think (simply based on my own experience) that you could theoretically compare the performance of an MC in certain circumstances to an MCS, but not any more.....they are two distinctly different cars in my mind for two very different uses/customers.

I'll be keeping my Cooper simply because of how I use the car...daily driver....city streets....share space with lots of other (much slower) motorers. Plenty of thrills if needed. But for a constant adrenaline rush (and increasing city revenues)...yeah, the '05 MCS would do quite nicely.
