R50/53 Trailer Wiring?
Trailer Wiring?
Is there a harness that doesn't cost $90 for our car? I see references to not being able to draw power from the existing wiring, but that should only mean that we need to run a wire direct to the battery, right? Why are harnesses so bloody expensive? Is there some type of converter box or special relay that drives up the price? Can I not just use one of the $10 universal kits?
Someone please learn me.

Is there some type of amp limit? If you can put a pre-made harness that just plugs in then would think it was logical that you could use a standard auto quicksplice that you do not have to cut any existing wires to use.
If it is a voltage issue would think you could use LEDs.

I'm not sure about any amp limits. I'm admittedly fairly clueless in regards to electricity but I understand broad theories. I wouldn't be opposed to LED, but this is for those rare times I need to rent a trailer. Having a set of LED's to get around the power issue would be more of a headache than just shelling out for the mini harness. I think I'll research e36 trailer harnesses. They're pretty ingenuitive and I'm sure have a similar setup. A couple wires and maybe a resistor shouldn't cost $90+shipping.
