The overhead mic is the little vent area to the right of the sunroof switch just behind the new maplights/old clock.

There is however that little box that protrudes from the headliner just behind the rear passenger area. It has two vents that face forward. It wasn't on my 2002, and my dealer didn't know what it was. I thought it may have something to do with the automatic air conditioning, but I didn't spec that on my 05 and it's still there...

Is this what you're talking about?

I once read it was for the hands free system that has never been produced. The non-functioning middle button on the left side MFSW controls was also part of the setup the article said.

"Is this what you're talking about?"

Directly in the center just aft of the map lights is a small "vent". (I don't have a sunroof.) It's about the size of a nickle (pure quess as I'm at work.)

"There is however that little box that protrudes from the headliner just behind the rear passenger area."

I haven't noticed anything in the rear passenger area, but then again I haven't looked.

I have that on my '03 MC. It is something to do with the intergrated bluetooth system for a cell phone. If you have the hook ups in the glove box then you have the system, if not you have a cool looking microphone thingy that doesn't do anything.

The little box that protrudes from the headliner just behind the rear passenger area is where the ultrasound module for the BMW alarm system is installed. All 03 models came factory wired for the alarm.
