When ever I hear/see someone call the Miata a "chick" car I ask them to define - chick car. I haven't heard a definition that makes any since yet.

I think that a car is a "chick" car or whatever purely based on who buys them. If 90% of the people who bought Porsches were women, it would be a "chick" car. Anyone who sees VW New Beetles and Miatas knows that a greater amount of women buy these cars, either because they are perceived as "cute" or seem less threatening as a peformance car. But for whatever reason, if more women buy them, they are obviously appealing to women, and thus most men do not want to be asssociated with them. This is psychology, not engineering.

Being a woman formerly known as a chick, I don't know why this issue continues, other than it exposes negative feelings towards females, chick being a dismissive, sexist term.

Here in Los Angeles, the majority of Miata drivers appear to be male, I'd go so far as to say 65%. I notice that the New Beetle gender equation seems to be about 60% female and 40% male. I've been happy to see "quirkier" car design enthusiastically accepted by both genders! It's all good!

you should all be so lucky to have enjoyed either one of these cars, Some of the lucky few here still enjoy both.

 meanie, when I was looking at the MINI back in Spring '02, I also looked at the New Beetle. I test-drove a turbo, and while it had nice acceleration (and I scared the salesman half to death ), I didn't like the interior, the visibility, and ESPECIALLY the landing-strip dash! WTF is that all about? LOL! I couldn't really tell where I was in it...like where did the bumpers end? I tested a number of vehicles, but NOTHING appealed to me on every level, including PERFORMANCE, like the MINI did!

What tires are you running? I find the ride to be great! Of course, I love road-feel!

Runflats, of course! I should be getting some Koseis with Kumhos soon so we'll see how that is. Of course, we have a Lexus but I've only drive that 4 times a month now.
