CVT Removal

Hi all Im removing the CVT from a 2003 Mini Cooper Non S. Trans self destructed befor I bought the car (very cheap) and I have sourced a replacemant trans. However the engine only spins a few degrees. It looks all good timing chain still in situ no metal in the oil etc, so I assume part of the trans has jammed up in the flywheel/ringgear.

Is there a regular torque converter or what goes between the engine and CVT? If I can split the engine and trans it should free up, just cant see how to do it as the cvt is still in the car and attached, all help appreciated

There is an input shaft on the transmission that engages the flywheel, if the trans is locked you won't be able to turn the engine over with them still mated.

Many thanks. So will the flywheel come out with the trans in one unit by sliding off the spline?
