Hey again guys so another question I have a17% pulley on my r53 and I'm not sure if that's the better one to have for better performance or should I put a 15%pulley. Also will adding a chip improve a significant amount on performance and if so whay chip should I get
17% is fine for the street, if you track the car then go down to the 15%.
Minis don't use chips, it's all done with physical ECU tuning, there are canned tunes, that simply take into consideration your mods and custom tunes that are done either remotely or in person, which of course take into consideration exactly how your car is performing with those mods. Of course custom tunes are the best and most highly recommended.

The difference between 17% and 15% pulleys is slight. I've heard the 17% picks up the bottom end a bit, but don't sweat the difference unless you're planning on banging off the redline all day at the track. 17% runs hotter, so you'd want 15% in that situation.
As BlwnAway said, we don't use chips. Many people get the ECU tuned by Jan of RMW or Way of WMW.

Here is a great article on chip and ECU upgrades for your year and model MINI as well as mine!

Here is a pulley, belt, ECU and necessary spark plug upgrade that will add about 25-30 HP:

Plus, an overview of several performance options:

the ecu is a self learning ecu, there are parameters that it will adapt to within reason. the one thing it struggles with is larger injectors. the stock are 330cc. the ecu can handle 380cc (JCW uses these with a JCW tune) but going larger than that youll be super rich at WOT if the car will run at all well enough to get there with 440cc. 550cc the car wont idle.
a change in boost or air flow. the car can make a difference for. even a slightly more aggressive cam shaft can drop in with usually no issues.
while a tune can get more gains over the stock tune, they are usually expensive (due to the complication of the ecu and all these parameters) and are only really needed when moving to larger injectors
17% pulley is a great addition. youll be going from about 9-10psi of boost to about 15-16 psi
