R50/53 RMW tune ...constantly replacing spark plugs
Oops, missed that since we had been talking about the gap on the EIX's.
I completely forgot about the EQUP's since I hadn't used them once I started performance modding.

That looks like a bad / poor flowing injector. Looks like the #2 injector is just not as good as the other 3. Also, you need bigger injectors with those mods and a tune. You have the stock ones maxed out on the top end and its causing a lean condition which is melting your plug. Its going to melt your piston too if you dont fix it.
Whats the compression numbers on that engine? Is cylinder 2 lower?

this is the worse I have seen the plugs like this. I am using this time BKR7EIX - .031. by the looks of the bad plugs it seems like I may be running rich?
So JCW plugs are a step colder then stock R53? With a 15% smaller pulley would 8's and /or 9's be to cold?

SneedSpeed, you have got me curious on my injectors. Each time I replaced my plugs the OBD2 was error cylinder 2 misfire.
I will look into the JCW plugs for sure. I drove to work today with new plugs installed, everything seems good so far.

If you keep seeing a misfire on only #2 then its not the plugs. You should be running JCW heat range plugs but running stock heat range plugs wouldn't cause a burnt electrode like that. Also, gap isn't going to cause any of these problems. Basically, you want the gap as gap as possible without misfiring under boost. I think you're #2 injector is not spraying as much fuel as the others and causing a lean condition that is melting your spark plug. You can run stock injectors with your mods but the injectors have to be in good condition because you're running them at full duty cycle in the top of the RPM range.
To the op....
Are you using re-drilled injectors? Often they have bad spray patterns, or stream... possible hitting the back if the valves, and dripping fuel, rather that atomizing it 100%.
Jan is pretty good about monitoring the knock sensor activity when tuning a car...(if it was a remote tune, not sure how he manages that, mine was in person)....so ti be getting a HOT and possibly violent combustion with a misfire that destroys sparkplugs says something is going on...

I'm surprised that more people are running AFR gauges on their cars......pretty cheap compared to the mods/tuning they are doing. At least that way you know what actually is going on....
(A)ir (F)uel (Ratio) gauge......it lets you see in real time if your motor is running rich/lean, or anywhere in between. Very handy to have!
Ooooh the ones you need the broadband O2 sensor for... Thank you!
OP: can you post more of a close up of the #2 cylinder plug with the burnt electrode? Specifically the porcelain area? Little black spots on the porcelain that looks like pepper indicates light knocking as oil makes it past the rings as they rattle. Silver flecks on the porcelain indicate heavy detonation where it's actually embedding small flakes of the piston into the plug.
Only if it's a 5v wideband AFR setup, people might think they can just throw a regular gauge on a stock 1v range o2 sensor and monitor the full range.

I have an Innovate Motorsports MTX-L AFR gauge/sensor.
How aggressive of a Cam did you install ?
With a stock cam, if that came from #4 cylinder I wouldn't be surprised. But if that melted plug came from #2 cylinder, I'm leaning towards a bad injector. But curious why Jan performed the tune in the first place when you only had stock 340cc injectors. Maybe he didn't do a full blown tune, did best he could w/o leaning it out given the fact he had not much to work with in respect to fuel ?
Just on a list of mods, IMO injectors should have been further up than that cam.

Most people just buy the "kit" that comes with the correct gauge, and correct wideband O2 sensor. Not sure why anyone would buy a separate gauge and try to put it on a narrowband O2 sensor...and then hope that they both work together.
