Have to mess with clutch pedal for R53 to start.
I have a 2006 Cooper S. I first noticed the problem a couple weeks ago.
About 50% of the time, when starting the car, everything works normally.
The other 50% of the time, when my clutch is fully depressed, I turn the key and nothing happens. There is no starting sound or clicking when it is turned.
I have found a way to get it to start in these situations. I have to let off the clutch a few inches, turn the key, and then a moment later, push the clutch pedal back down. At this point the starter kicks in like normal.
Does my description give enough information to narrow down what might be causing this?

Maybe your clutch switch? This individual HERE seems to have your same issue. Alan is an active member on here so maybe shoot him a PM and see if the switch was indeed his issue.
Here is where it's located. Maybe check the connection.
