Mini began feeling rough. Visually checked engine at idle, was shaking like some mechanical hopper. Wondered if anyone had any parts recommendation. Assuming engine mounts.

do yourself a favor if you are going to take care of this; do it once and do it right and don't ever deal with it ever again lol :D

Did you visually check the engine mounts, both above and below? Was there an excessive amount of play there -- at the engine mounts? If the center bolts that go through the rubber bushings in the mounts (both top & bottom) are rattling about, then it very well could be the mounts. If the assembly looks tight, you may have bigger problems.

Well I am now filled with dred. What are the bigger problems.

 

Just buy a new set of poly engine mounts, and be done with it

 

If you visually inspected you'll be able to tell if it's a bad mount so look it over again. In the later MINIs (2004 on; which is what you have), they use a liquid filled engine mount on the passenger side that can leak and eventually collapse. Look it over carefully.

 

Front top mount seems to be fraying around middle. Have ordered replacement, engine vibrates at idle, runs smooth as glass on the road.

 

If you're replacing the front passenger side mount there is a 'one-time use torque-to-yield ' torx bolt and is recommended to be replaced with a new one for when you install the new mount. http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...-6-766-753-M26. Info here with pictures for reference.
