My recall was allowed to be activated early, per corporate. They already have the new parts but just haven't shipped them out. I would call corporate to see if they will allow the recall on yours to be activated early.

+1 its on the pump and the fan, the letter I got for mine was to letter to get ready for the recall. If yours is not working ( car is down ) , then you can take it in to get it done. If working then just wait for the full recall.

Hi everyone, I know this is an old thread, but I have been having the same issues with power steering fluid and 'whining' coming from my engine area that is more pronounced with turning.
I've been to the Mini site and entered my vin and safety recall is showing 'open recall not complete'.
However, I noticed some are saying the 'lines' are not part of the recall. I want to know before I go to the dealer for the inspection.
Here is what I read on the Mini site:
Repair Description

Your MINI dealer will inspect the power steering system components, i.e. pump, fan, and/or wiring, and the necessary and appropriate components will be replaced at no charge. An extended warranty is also available on affected MINIs.

The way I read this the lines should be replaced. Am I reading into this more that the recall is going to fix?

Thanks

My PS pump was replaced via the recall, although it was still working ok.
Good news - the PS pump and fan were replaced for free.
Bad news - MINI quoted me $350 and then charged me $450 to redo the leaking lines
at the same time as doing the pump/fan (saying whoever at the stealership quoted me
$350 was mistaken). Never trust the dealer.

I do not think that the dealership will replace the pump under warranty without replacing the lines (which they overcharge you for).

I replaced the lines myself with a fluid flush for around $180.

I doubt that if you brought the car in with brand new lines that they would replace the pump only. The overpriced line swap is their "bread & butter" portion of the warranty work.

Kind of hard to swallow a "free" pump for $450 worth of required work.

Welcome to the game.

My return line, pump, fan, and hardware were replaced for free at Flow MINI in NC. I believe the lines are a conditional part of the recall, at least that's what they told me. They replaced my return line because they deemed it as being in poor condition.

Guess I should've called and asked before I did the lines myself since I also went to Flow. I'll just chalk it up as a learning experience.

I had my pump checked by MINI and they stated that if replaced it just the pump and fan. No lines, in some cases the harness also. Nice a dealer came through on the lines. As per the repair order they just do the pump and fan. Plus the replacement of the P/S fluid.

They replaced my pump and fan. Fan didn't work before and still doesn't so that's an electrical gremlin I have to chase down when its not 900 degrees outside. I may have told them I had just done the lines so no reason for them to say anything about replacing them.

I had my Mini at the dealership for the air bag recall. They said PS lines were leaking and it would be $1,100. It's been a year and I've yet to add fluid. Gave a drop or two on garage.

If you have the capability just buy a ECS kit and do it yourself. I did a detailed how-to on it and it's pretty simple stuff.

Is the recall only for failed units?

Nope. Mine whined but still functioned. If your vin pulls up in the list of recalls they have to replace it.

The only whine I want to hear from my car is the supercharger.

Is there a place online to check if mine is on the recall list?
