2003 R50 Service Enginge Soon

The service engine light came on tonight, so I checked for codes, it gave two codes, both for P2097. Can anyone advise on the fix.

Thanks

So I cleared all adaption values and a quick delete of errors, disconnected the battery for over 30 minutes, started the car up SES light was now off but my sat nav is messed up, blank screen. Anyway drove the car, after 5 miles the light came back on, so I order a new o2 sensor. Let's hope it clears after that.

I'm new to Minis, but I've been working on modern cars like BMW's and Saabs for years. As you've probably learned, the front oxygen sensor is intended to check how rich the mixture is immediately after combustion, so the fuel injection system can richen or lean out the mixture to keep the oxygen percentage precisely regulated to promote full chemical conversion of noxious gasses in the catalytic converter. The second oxygen sensor is supposed to be for quality control, to check the accuracy of the first oxygen sensor.

Keeping that in mind, both the front and rear oxygen sensors become less sensitive at about the same rate as they age. Even though the error you're seeing points a finger at a bad front oxygen sensor, the possibility remains that both oxygen sensors may need to be replaced. That's expensive, but it may be the best thing to do.

Scott

Thanks Scot, make sense replaced the first o2 sensor, cleared the code using INPA and also the adaptions. Ran the car and the SES light came back on.
