2002 R50 Oil filter cap does not thread on

Now my oil filter cap won't line up and screw on after replacing the filter with a Mann HU816. Feels like the threads are off. Any one ever overtighten one of these where it pulled the threads out of wack?

This cap was on too tight in my opinion. And does this sound like a complete housing replacement or would staring with a new cap be a first step?

is this your first time?

if so, two hints

First, I've had good luck with the MANN filter, just be sure you press it FULLY into the can, it takes some pressure

Second, when trying to thread the can back on .. apply some pressure DOWN .... press it down firmly while turning. Getting past the o-ring can be difficult.

IME it always feels like the can is on too tight ... because it takes some torque just to get it on all the way. Again, turning against that o-ring takes some pressure.

You should also try turning counter clockwise to get it to "drop" into position and then turn right.

It's a little tough but not impossible at all. Really important you don't slit the o-ring.

As you guys responded, it was in fact the MANN filter which was not seating all the way down. I had pressed the filter into the lid along with the basket and needed to get it back out again and the MANN filter was not playing nice with the basket. oh man, i mean oh MANN. The better part of the afternoon was fishing the filter out of the lid without breaking the filippin plastic basket (original one). So I verified the filter needed to go down a little more with a "clunk". Thanks guys. Both of you were spot on with the solution. Hope this helps someone else down the road.

Now to fix my shift cable...

endlesss!
