Oil smell, intermittent, and two wet inside bolts....

Hoping this is not a new engine cover/gasket job but can the forum guru's help with the following:

2008 MCSauto

1. Occasional bad smell with heat application. Random.
2. Oil use at about 1L per 1000 miles, been that way from my ownership at 70k..now at 85k.
3. Dry external bolts and engine edge.
4. Moist bolts deep central - for example the bolt next to the oil fill cap had a fresh oil cover to it today. There are two of these "deep" bolts. Taking a paper towel and checking these yields a little fresh oil in this area.
5. Start up if sitting still for a long time: lots of white smoke, that gets better once engine warms up.
6. Runs like a champ. Mileage is great. Dry underneath. Just perhaps a tiny amount of seapage..???

No loss in power, runs smooth, etc.

Thanks!

jeff

Just cleaned off the engine and let it run for a bit...dry...so, might be a false alarm - oil change was done at an indy shop...may have been a little sloppy I guess....oil changes never go to the master mechanics....

White smoke is an indication of coolant. I'd double check over your MINI for coolant and oil leaks. When they did the oil change did they note any types of leaks? At the shop I worked at we always had the technician indicate any visual issues while performing routine maintenance check ups such as oil changes. Since you cleaned off the area, be sure to keep your eye on it to see if the oil returns.
