I should take it in?

When ever I take it into service I'll point out the paint defects. Do you think I should do it sooner then later? Plus, I who is a good dealer in the S.F. Bay Area for paint?

If the doors were taken off then the unpainted body areas can be seen. Weird.

oh, and if I was the manufacturer and did a ooops on paint coverage,
I would decrease the warranty period.
Extending warranties is considered "good will" effort by the manufacture to right a wrong. It is a typical way to avoid a full-fledged recall which is much more expensive. This way they show they will try to help out on a problem they had, if the problem actually shows up, otherwise they will do nothing. I just looked at my 04 IB/W (Nov. build) and there's definately a spot inside the door jam behind the hinge without paint. Any '02s or 03s like this? did they change the paint process?

whoa

So I am not the only one that has seen this. I guess I'll bring it in and see what the dealer says. Does any know if mini of S.F. is any good?

Extended rust warranty... whatever.

How 'bout a 12 year warranty on squeaks, rattles, scratches, dings, dirt, grime, and nagging backseat drivers?

I'll just settle for more paint where they missed it.

I know it's not clear-coat, but even without it- the paint is really thin. I was cleaning underhood with some strong car-washing soap (didn't dilute it much) and using a regular non-brillo sponge from the kitchen (don't worry- I threw it out before washing my dishes, or did I??? ) and I started to see a bit of blue in the sponge

Rust on one door hinge - 2002 MC

I finally took my 2002 MC in for a rusty passenger side door hinge. I didn't notice it for a long time, because I so rarely use that door. The rust covers half the hinge closest to the door attachment. It is bare steel. The driver's side hinge has no rust.

Well, you know what they said?? Not covered because it is not a painted part .

Anybody up on the warranty for 2002s? Does it really exclude anything without paint? I mean, a rust warranty is a rust warranty and should cover everything. Obviously, the seal on the passenger door isn't as good as the one on the other side, or I'd have rust on both door hinges.

Now, the doors on 2005s (and 2004s, I think) have a completely different, painted hinge. Why would they retool and make a different hinge if the old ones weren't faulty? And why should I have to pay to have it fixed?

The service advisor also said "We're not responsible for rust from the outside of the car--only from the inside." Huh??

Ideas on what to say to the service department to get this fixed would be swell. Thanks so much.
