I am looking forward to pick up my new MINI Cooper S in the next few weeks. Since I am several hours away from my dealer I am trying to get a checklist together to send my dealer on what I want done (or not done) to my car before I take delivery. Has anyone done a checklist or had things done at dealer prep they were suprised about? Items I need are programming options for owners preference etc.. I want the car right (or close) the first time I pick it up.

Things I have so far:
1. Daytime running lights on.
2. No front license plate holder (not required where I live but required at dealers state).
3. Remote Key program options?
4. Floor mat type.
5.???

If you forget to ask your dealer for something, write it down and ask the next time you go in for the oil change.

Take your camera. See how much paperwork you can get done prior to your arrival. My dealer actually Fed Exed the papers to me (extenuating circumstances, but I think it was worth it!) and the papers were done! I also took a gift for my sales person because she was so awesome. I also got a few freebies by asking innocently about some of the smaller stuff (mugs, etc). I also asked that they MAKE SURE that my hatch latch did NOT RATTLE! She assured me it would not. Now, whether they drove it and figured it doesn't rattle or they fixed it prior to it rattling, I don't know. It doesn't rattle! The one thing you should ask for is that the car be SPOTLESS. The detail guys left smudge markes and such on my car and the interior was a bit "linty" like a towel had been shook out in it or something! Also, be sure to be specific about extras. If you don't want surprises, tell them. I was very forward with my dealer and she appreciated that. They did not sell me any extras on the loan (life insurance or worker's comp type stuff) and they did not add anything like lights, camera, action.............

My experience was the best! I hope yours will be too!

Let us know how it goes.

Barb
PS-does every S have the aluminum skid plates inside the doors on the running boards? I was surprised by mine as I had not noticed them before.

You may want to piCk up early and drive around town for
a bit. Then you can check and see if your coolant recovery tank
is leaking and look for other minor problems. It may save you
a trip back.

I've been compiling a list of the programmable options and here is what I have heard about so far:

1. Wiper speed to vary with car speed (as car speed increases, wipers go faster)
2. Automatic door lock at >8mph
3. Automatic door unlock when shifting to park
4. Courtesy interior lights on for a bit after turning off engine
5. Remote opening of windows/sunroof from key
6. Selective central unlocking (i.e. drivers door unlocks on first turn of key, then passengers' on second turn)
7. Daytime driving lamps
8. "Follow me home" lamps (headlights stay on for a bit after you leave car- good if you have to walk in dark to your door)
9. Automatic activation of windshield wipers when cleaning windshield (would't think this would have to be programmed)
10. Ability to turn on interior lights with remote

Other things on my list to do at delivery include buying an oil filter and making sure all fluids are full.

This is just what I have gathered from reading this and other wonderful message boards. Hopefully those who have been through the process can add/clarify if any of this is incorrect.

"5. Remote opening of windows/sunroof from key"

I think you have a choice of this or the rear
tailgate unlocking. Do this. My tailgate doesn't
open properly and I think others have had problems.
Have fun!!!!
