R50 Speedometer kaput!

I bought MC R50 for cheap. ($1400) the good news, the car is in good shape. The bad news, the motor is seized. I pulled the head and found the number 3 piston tilted about 25 degrees and jammed at the bottom of the cylinder.

I found a motor and before installing it, I did a complete set of seals. Valve stems, front main, rear main, pan, etc. A complete set. I just didn't want to go back.

Anyway I installed it and to my surprise, it started and runs beautifully. I have about 500 miles on the car, and there are a few things I still need to fix.

The speedometer! It only registers 10 - 15 mph. I plugged my computer into the ODB port, and while driving, I get proper miles per hour readings. (I had a friend watching).

This sounds like the speedo is the problem, no? This is my first mini and I am at a little disadvantage.

What computer system is recommended to talk to the ODBII in the mini. I need to reset the airbag sensor, and I want to do a complete reset but my computer (Movi Pro from Yahsi) complains when I try the reset.

What do youse guys recommend to talk to the ODB port of the MC?

Thanks

You can look into AutoEnginuity Complete OBDII Diagnostic Tool here. Lots of information there and a few members here use it as well.

As for the speedo, look at this thread here for some really good info. As far as what could be your issue, maybe try and do a reset. Here is a thread with a good suggestion, post #2. Although, the poster didn't have your same exact issue. Didn't find much other than people having no power to it or having theirs not read MPH correctly. Could try that method first to see if anything changes.
