There are a few issues that can lead up to a cylinder 2 misfire code. Report back and let us know if the coil fixes your issue. Otherwise, I'd check your fuel injector (swap cylinder 2 with a different cylinder and see if it follows) and possibly do a compression/leak down test. Here are some other options to diagnose below:

For all of you having this issue I found out after months and months what was causing my issue and it was the fuel pump. The fuel pump seemed to be going bad and not powerful enough so it was throwing codes, check engine lights, and causing a cold start issue. Replaced the fuel pump and fuse and no issues since!!!

Did you also have the DSC, SES lights, and P0302 code with your issue? Funny enough, I just did the fuel pump and filter about a month ago when it failed. I bought a Delphi brand pump, and it seemed to have cleared the issue.
My buddy came over last night with an Autologic diagnostic tool, and we noticed that the swapping of wires, coils, etc, didnt make a difference. The diagnostic tool showed issues with cyl 4, not with cyl 2...go figure. It also showed the O2s working hard to regulate the A/F mixture. We'll be tearing it apart this weekend and checking out the valves, springs, etc. Then, if that fixes the issue, Im selling this thing.

So after some time of simply sitting in the garage, I started tinkering with the Mini again. A compression test showed 150, 145, 150, and 155, respectively. I replaced two of the fuel injectors, two plugs, and then cleared the P0302 code. The car ran rough for a few minutes and then the DSC light popped on. I revved it up a bit and it hesitated once again at the lower RPMs. It corrected itself by a bit, and then the SES light came on.

Could it possibly be a computer issue? or maybe a Cam sensor? Arghhhh Im lost.

Did you scan for the code and it is throwing P0302 again?

Yes sir, after clearing it, the DSC light comes on, followed by the SES. I didnt see any noticeable cracks in the injector connections.

Wonder if there might be a great issue at foot here. Some additional info in this NAM thread by the last poster, but most of which you have already covered. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...checklist.html

I also recommend going to our article here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...eplacement.htm. Go to the bottom where it says comments & suggestions. Leave a comment with detailed information on what you've done already and how the DSC/SES and P0302 code are still present. Our MINI guru may have some additional input for you.

I think I found it! After pulling off the valve cover again, we checked the springs, rollers, rockers, etc., a bit more in detail. The roller on the exhaust side barely moved, so we turned it a bit more and finally noticed that there were heavy grooves in it. The rest of the cam and components had spotty areas where it looked like the metal had been beat against concrete. So I'll be searching for a set of rockers, and cam assembly. Should I stick with oem or jump up to a decent increase? JCW? I have a son in the dorms, so the pricey ones are most likely out of the question...

All 1st gen used same cam and rocker arms;therefore, there is no such thing jcw/gp cam/rocker arms and no gain in power. The only difference is that early years rocker arms came with nylon/plastic tips whereas some 06 and up came with metal tips. That's about it. Have the cam sent to a machine shop to "buff" it out instead of buying another one. Also make sure to torque all rocker arms down in sequence and 22ft lbs. And have you done a leak down test?

Oh ok, I would've expected the JCW or GP to come a bit more aggressive. I may just buy an extra OEM cam. I haven't done a leak down, just a compression test.

That sounds good. Im pretty sure the axle (the bar that holds the rocker assembly; not sure if that's the actual name) can be re-used. Are the rocker arm rollers in good shape? Sorry, I just want to make sure I know the actual names of the parts needed. If you have pictures of the entire unit, that would be great. Also, 250 shipped works for me. Paypal ok?

This with more information and possible solutions can be found here. After this, if you believe the camshaft sensor is the culprit, part here. There is also some good info in this thread here on NAM, which includes some instructions on the replacement.
Thank you for the reply and the symptoms are exactly what I am experiencing here. The car won’t rev past 1500 rpms, is idling terribly, and stalls after 10-15 seconds. This thread has given me a place to start!

I just had the same issues on my R50. It was fuse F3 in the engine compartment fuse block. It had corroded a bit and had poor contact. Caused cam position sensor code as well as O2 sensors and evap code. DSC light wouldn’t turn off with toggle switch either. Check engine light was on and car running like crap! Codes P0445, P0031, P0037, P0340. Hope this helps you figure it out!

Hopefully, it helps. I tried to provide a few pics for when I went through this issue in case it helps. Lots of feedback on the topic which greatly helped me.

Good luck. Report back when you have this settled or figured out.

How would i even get in there to check the connections and plugs? Sucks now that I moved from a house to a apartment but ill have to make due.
check your purge valve, it will cause other issues if it’s clogged.
