R50/53 My Mini Held Up At VDC ?
My Mini Held Up At VDC ?
I was a bit puzzled, to put it mildly, as to why when I check the OL it gives me an Estimated Delivery Date of 9/3, when others whose Mini's traveled with mine on the EMDEN- arrived Charleston 7/31 have a 8/14 EDD.At first, last week, my MA told me the car would be ready for pick up on or before 8/10, now I am told it may be waiting for a truck to transport it from Charleston and that they only know from a fax they get each morning as to what cars are put on a truck to them, so they will tell me when my car gets on a truck.
I called AskMini, got a very helpfull person on the phone who told me that the EDD is entered into the OL site by someone at the VDC, and the dates are usually very accurate. I asked why my EDD was 9/3 when others were 8/14 he said that it could be several things, a spot Customs inspection, A spot QC check or....I hesitate to even say it, but a body repair???
Anyone ever have this situation happen or have any info that may shed some light?
Thanks!
The port is Charleston, but I believe that the VDC is in Spartanburg, about 3 hours away at the Spartanburg assembly plant. I don't want to be negative, because I don't know what your circumstances are, but mine was held up , because the door needed to be repainted. They gave me a run around as well.
Not trying to be picky, but it is VPC (Vehicle Prep Center). If the car arrives at the Charleston port it is then railed to the BMW Manufacturing Facility in Greer, SC where it is cleaned and inspected for various things including transit damage.
* BTW, your dealer can pull a VPC Damage discloser on their DCS (BMW NA computer system).

Why did it need repainting anyway?
Can you tell it was repainted?
Thanks for you help.
No they never told me the answer, I had to push for it. As far as I could tell under four different lights (Sodium, flourescent, incadescent, and outdoor) I couldn't tell any shades in the pigments. It looked identical, and I even knew which door it was.
I would not take a damaged car at this price. I would demand $$ off or reorder. Make that reorder they cant take enough off.

Yeah they would have allowed me to reorder. The problem was that it was another three month wait, and I couldn't tell there was any damage, no matter how hard I looked. Normally things like this bug me and I don't take it, but the fact is, I could have reordered, and nothing stops the fact that I could pull right out of the dealership and one block away get rear ended, right after I bought the car. I kind of weighed those two things out and decided to take the car.
