My 03 Cooper (not S) is over 210K - 1 transmission, 2 clutches, a radiator, an alternator, a steering pump and 2 sets of axles - then normal maintenance...... I just started doing mods.... added the aero grill and a "mini" jack...
Wow. I have 2003 mini s. 233000 miles on it. Original engine and transition. Just replaced my first clutch. Like others have said. It is an easy car to work on. I have never been to the dealer out of warrenty. I have owned it since new. Only wear items have needed replacement. My car still runs great. I don't care for the 3rd gen. 2nd gen has timing chain and carbon issues. 1st gen has zero issues except the water pump pto gears on the supercharger. But if you maintain that and the car is a manual it is a very reliable platform.
Nice! You are the first person I've found with more miles than mine - I'm in the 210 - 220K range - I've replaced the transmission and a couple of clutches but still good for over 13 years! Its been paid off since 08 or something....
Come to find out that sometime during the 2003 manufacturing year they upgraded to the single plug connector. Mine has the older two plug connectors. The correct one will be here no later than Thursday. Life is an adventure so stay tuned

You may/may not find you have a spare plug after install on the fan side....
Starting in 2005 MINI changed the source of the POWER STEERING FAN plug from the radiator fan harness to the fuseblock...this was due to a nasty issues where the PS fan would jam...and it would blow fuse (shared) that activated the radiator fan...rendering the car fanless...many 2002+ cars were updated when they dealers worked on them...some were not..but the fan harnesses still all have a plug (kinda like a half oval 2 prong plug) that may/may not be used...the plug on the car side might have been moved and rerouted....
If this was done...the radiator side plug was just cut-off and taped up...
So if the leftover prong is a 2 wire...don't sweat it...
The date of production for your car is in the drivers side door jamb...

Thanks but when I plugged in the new single plug the fan runs whether the key is off or on and doesn't shut off, so I suppose the second plug tells the fan when it should run or not??

What is a Mini jack (besides the one in the boot)?

The change from the early to late fans was to move the locations of the fan relay....
The older fans had the relays on the fan...next to it..
The new ones have the relays on the car side...thus the changes in the number of plugs.
So just have to get the one that matches your production date shown on your door jamb.
Think the "MINI jack" he is referring to is the aux input jack for the OEM radio.
