Help Needed.... Window Issue!

Hey guys was wondering if anyone has had a problem with their window ever? My driver side window won't go up or down but passenger side does and all the other toggle switches are working... I'm not sure what it is, and it was just working yesterday and the window still click when I hit the switch
Thanks

The motor in my driver (RHS) door is being replaced under used car warranty in my R53. There was a receipt in the glove box that it had been done once before too.

Probably the motor. Can you pull it out and test it yourself?

^^^ What he/she said... motors/regulators are pretty common on these cars (european cars in general) so i would start there... although on my m3 it ended up being the fuse was blown so maybe check that first?

I did a regulator replacement on my driver door 2005 r53 is it grinding and making noises or nothing at all? If it's not making noises most likely just the motor but when you take off the door panel if you see lots of lose and stripped metal fibers then you need the new regulator also! It is a 2 person job though and a pain if you're not mechanically inclined in the least.

First try banging firmly on the inside of the door panel with your fist above the lower speaker (the Fonzie maneuver).
This often works if the motor isn't totally shot.

broken motor in window

I had to have the motor on the passenger side window replaced last year. Now it looks like the driver's side is getting ready to go. Have no clue how to do something like this myself so I'll be taking it in to a good local mechanic who only works on English, German and Swedish cars.

Last window cost almost $2K to get it fixed. The entire inside apparatus had to be replaced. Can't complain too much, though, because I ordered my baby new from the factory in 2003 and she still looks great and has very low mileage - 47K. Very few problems over the years but when one has cropped up, it's usually been expensive to get it fixed.

Want to take care of her, though, because I'm on the fence about the look of the new Minis. Really liked that ice blue color that came out a few years ago but I notice it's not listed on the official Mini site as an option right now.

I was able to "revive" my driver side window motor a couple of times by banging on the panel but now that trick no longer works. I talked to my mechanic about replacing the motor and he recommended replacing the regulator at the same time because they are fragile, and you don't want to have to do the 2.5 hour job again.

Has anyone else just replaced the motor, and then had to go back and replace the regulator too?

Both were replaced at the same time on my passenger window. I figured I'd end up paying even more if I had to go back and have the regulator replaced separately due to labor charges.

$2,000 is atrocious! I would look at getting a second opinion on the price for the next one. The OEM regulator is about $200 and labor is about $200 for the repair (and that's at the dealer). It's a pain to change (I have changed a few), but it isn't that difficult to warrant 2 grand...

I took mine back in and it was just the regulator that had given out so the full cost was $400 and some change. I forgot that when I originally had to have both parts (regulator and motor) on the passenger side replaced, I also had the motor replaced on the driver's side. That contributed to the high price.

Window regulator and motor options: Note in 6/2005+ there was a change in the motors and brackets.

Check the motor first and try the "fonzie method" ( search it ), if the motor comes back to life then quite again , replace the motor. If the Motor is fine and moves but the pulley or wire on the regulator is bad, replace the regulator.
