R50/53 Emergency Plastic Key

Also for this reason, if a dealer looses a key, before the vehicle is sold, they are required (by BMW NA) to re-key the vehicle. This way the customer still has access to all 10 keys.
To the best of my knoledge, MINI is the same way. So do not loose too many keys!

I would like some of what you've been smoking
Maybe this will kill the thread... From flying cars to flying squirrels... I think we need to stick to the flying rodents... I'm beginning to think that the Illuminati provide the keys to our MINIs... When BMW builds a car, they make 10 keys at that time.
Dam, I think this thread is starting to devolve; let's bring it to an end, please.
I think all MINI owners are people claiming to be unusually enlightened with regard to the plastic key subject.

Now back to the rodents

I've heard that if you start the car 43 times with the plastic key, the onboard computer will scroll a list of all your AIM buddies across the display, and the auto a/c display will turn into a flower. But only if you send this to ten of your fellow MINI owner friends first.

It's REALLY not hard to check on some of this.
Just take a look at the datasheets for the immobilizer chip used in the MINI keys.
It's super easy to see that BMW would not need to make extra keys at the factory because of the rolling-code used in the chip.
It's also easy to see how they could add another chip to the list of chips allowed to start the car if you lost all your keys.

ok, what goes bad in the key fob, i opened mine up, (does not work anyhow), i tracked down a vender for the rechargable battery, with holder, old battery needs to be unsoldered from the board, new resoldered in, $5, my question is, is it the battery or the key fobs failed recharging circuitry? second part, if a i buy a working remote, put the guts into my blade, just need to know what the immobilizerr chip looks like and slip in to the key fob!
