Mini Cooper S 02 Starting Problem.

HI All! Having a issue with my mini right now..

Had it storage away for the winter and when i got to it this past week..

It wouldn't start. Got a new battery and charged it up and still no start.

Check the starter, thought to be the starter.. changed it, no luck.

please see video.. the only thing i'm down to is the pulley or the alternator/pulley..

just ordered the belt tool..
will check the pulley and alt pulley when it gets here..

But as of now..

Any Mini Guru Tech out there can take a look at the videos and see if i'm missing anything?

new battery
new starter
new fuel pump

beware of loud sounds from the clip.

all the clips is the same problem.

Thanks for the time and help..

I'm no guru, but first thing I think of with a stored car is battery, which you handled. Next fuel, you changed pump but did you deal with old gas or had you stabilized it? Third issue, rodent damage?

Gas will be the last thing to check.

Waiting on the tool and see if the
pulley is making the sound.

No rodent issue under the hood.

Motor will crank normal then slow down and kinda get stuck and won't turn over.

... you did check your oil, not just quantity but the condition it is in right?
Here are a few things to try...disconnect the serpentine belt and crank it over, if spinning fast, free spin the alternator pulley, it might be the alternator hanging up, (or you can disconnect the belt and see if you can spin the alternator pulley with your hand). If it still cranks over slowly pull the plugs, and crank it, is it fast or slow if it is slow then the issue is most likely the starter, if it is fast... make sure you have doubled checked you air box and you have not had any critters make a nest in your intake.

Best of luck.

Motor on!

Hi All!

Solve my problem!

My belt tool came and i crank the pulley back and put my pin in and try to spin the
Tensioner pulley, AC clutch and the Alternator pulley.
With my big hand i was about to spin the tensioner pulley, AC clutch freely.

I was able to stick my hand down to the alternator pulley and try to spin it
with my two finger.. I could not spin the alternator pulley.

So with the pin on the tensioner pulley and battery connected.
I cranked the motor and start at first try!!

On a closer look at the alternator i see a big crack on it. (see pic)
Alternator and new belt is ordered!

So to review what i found after spending almost $500 on parts and tools.

Old battery was on the way out and the old alternator fried my old starter (from cranking too much)
from the stuck pulley.

New battery
New starter
New Alternator / belt (On it's way)
Belt tool

Problem solve!

Hope this will help someone down the line..

Happy Motoring!

Check the ground cable that runs from the engine to the frame rail. I know it might sound silly but I was having a starting issue and the ground cable at the frame rail had some rustyish stuff under it, so I cleaned it and boom no more electrical issue. I doubt this is it but who knows

I thought it was the ground at first..
Checked all from front to back and wd40 and clean all grounds
and it didn't go away. Finally fixed it without towing to the shop!

Thx again for the tip!
