Doors not automatically unlocking?

Yesterday I noticed that when I turn my ignition off after driving, my door locks in my '06 will automatically unlock, which is great. Our '05, however, stays locked after pulling the key from the ignition, which is very annoying since it requires the double-pull of the door handle every time you want to exit. Is there a way to change this setting?

Are you saying that when you turn off the engine someone outside the car can enter it through unlocked doors. That sound anything but safe! You must travel in very safe places. Motor on.

I had it on my 2006 R52 and I liked the feature. It is programmable by a dealer, or through NCS Expert software. I asked the dealer to program it (and other options) when I bought the car.

If you know someone with NCS Expert: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...r-new-mcs.html

+1 its programmable at the MINI dealership or third party and you can also have them set to lock auto when you drive down the road.

You must be paranoid. Usually the very first thing people want to do when they stop the car and turn off the engine, is open the door and get out anyway.

A common way owners set up the options is auto-lock when the car starts going, and auto-unlock when turning off the engine. If you're stopped at an intersection, somebody can't walk up and open the door. After you've arrived at your destination and turned off the engine, it's a bit annoying to be still locked in.

Called & spoke with both the dealer & an independent Mini shop, either can do it but the dealer quoted $195 and the shop quoted "anywhere from free to $135 depending on how much needs to be reprogrammed". So, we'll probably go with the shop unless I decide to learn how to use NCS expert....
