suspension question

OK, so I have a 2005 Minis and I have blown a strut. A buddy gave me a lowering kit right after I got the car. He gave me springs and struts that's it. My question is do I need to buy aftermarket struts or will stock mini struts work here?

yea sorry guess i could have given a little more information, he gave me springs and struts. He just got back with me a few min ago and said that the struts were stock, but from what i have been reading stock struts are not recommended when lowering. Is there any truth to this? I found some aftermarket ones I am going to buy if needed they were 225 compared to stock I found for around 100, so there is a significant price difference.
