The next closest MINI dealer is in Edmond Ok. We have a couple of K State grads in our family.

Oh wow I had no idea it was that far away. I am currently attending Kansas State, I was army before that. I like the MHK area though. Not a lot of minis but thats a good thing, mine stands out more!

You can probably start with .050 for a gap and see how that works. Even increments as little as .005 + or - makes a difference.
They are the one prong plug I believe, mini installed them for me at the dealership. I am not sure if they gaped them or not. Ill email and ask them.

Also the Alta site where I ordered the plugs from states the "gap should be 0.027" does that sound right?

Huh, I live in Overland Park (Kansas City suburb) and MINI's are as thick as flies 'round here, see at least 3 or 4 every day.

Oh and how I wish I was attending KSU, I hate the very thought that I will technically become a "Jayhawk" here in a couple of months...

Yeah I go to Baron every now and then I love that Dealership, OP is a nice place. So what you're telling me is you are now my rival..Good thing we have MINIs in common haha! No worries I am from Boston so I don't usually follow all the Kansas BS when it comes to sports.

.027-.032 would be the range appropriate for a stock coil pack...As I wrote before, to gain the benefits of the MSD, you must broaden that gap increasing the arc of the spark = more efficient fuel combustion = More torque/hp. I would re-gap to .050 and go from there. If you experience any skip bring it down to .045

Thanks for all the help. I ended up going with the JCW NGK 1 step colder plugs. They are the 4 prong so no gap is needed.

Steffen, Are you still in the Manhattan area? I live about 35 minutes from Manhattan and go there quite often, I just bought another MINI S, (R52) in November. When it gets warmer I should check out your MINI.

That's a little weird, I have on paper my dealer (Seattle MINI) doing a short throw shifter for my R53, They seem to be kind to help but it just costs an arm and leg.

Yes I am stuck in good ole Manhattan still while I attend school. I would love to have a unofficial MINI meetup. Of course when it gets ALOT warmer haha!
