Stock R53 speed limiter is set at 135 miles per hour. There are some over the counter ECU changes that you can plug in that will remove that. That's what I've heard I have not done it nor have I gone over 135 nor will I. Unless you have a built motor that can handle that I highly recommend you don't push that motor past that.
Lmao this thread is so old. I've had my R52 Mini Cooper S convertible with only a 15% pulley reduction upto 130 mph. I was impressed with how quickly it got there for being a brick. It didn't seem to struggle at all, especially considering I'm sure the convertible has more drag than the hardtop. I'm certain it would have gone faster as it kept pulling but I ran out of space.
I've seen an indicated 135 or so many, many years ago on my R53. It was (and still is) bone stock. The fastest I've gone in it in the past 13 years or so is only 90 or so and very rarely do I even come close to that. I daily drive my R53, so I usually just stay in the right lane and cruise to/from work.
There is no speed limitation in any module of the car. The speed is limited only by the maximum power of the engine.
Facelift R53 manual gearbox with good engine can reach 145mph.

Here to update, I've finally maxed out the car in the past couple years several times. I've done no other mods since my last post other than the one ball mod on the exhaust. On a flat road it seems like my car maxes out at anywhere from 138-142 mph on the speedometer. I had it up to 145ish on a steep, long downhill stretch of road once, and it had a little more in it. It probably could have hit the 150 mark on that stretch but I chickened out. It doesn't feel like there's a speed limiter anywhere. I don't feel any hard cut off like I've felt on other cars.
