First Post for a New Owner of an Old Mini!

Hello, sage Mini owners. I bought my daughter an '04 MC with 109K for her first car after months of looking and praying for the right car. Hopefully the happy daughter and the car shows in the sig line. The car has had a few issues in the month we've had it so I hope to pick your brains for some answers.

First it threw a 0507 code (higher idle than expected). I'm thinking the throttle body probably needs a cleaning which may also clean off the sensors downstream. I believe this happened on a day with the AC cranked all of the way up and loading the engine.

Additionally EP came up on the transmission and hasn't gone away. However the car didn't go into the limp-home mode and drive fine. Any suggestions.

The closest Mini dealer is 100 miles away so any help is much appreciated to save a long day to get there and back.

Again, thanks so much.

Sorry, but i dont have a response to your specific questions, but i thought i would bump your thread hoping that others will jump in with the info you need. It sound like you have a CVT (auto trans). Research cvt in the R50/53 forum, there is tons of good info on care and feeding of the CVTs. Other than the CVT, the R50 is a great car if maintained well. On a 100k mi car, i Recommend changing engine and trans oils, and coolant if not already done. Also change the belt and o2 sensor (use only NTK 25648) unless you are positive they have already been changed. Also, find a good independent mechanic that knows minis, the dealer should only be a last resort. If you are a bit handy with a wrench, this stuff is not hard to do, on-line ordered parts will show up at your door and may be less expensive than an auto parts store, much much less expensive than the dealer.

Ill take a stab at the idle issue: it MIGHT be a problem with the throttle position sensor. Also easy to replace.

Great looking car. Good luck!

You have to change the transmission oil at 60.000 km or every four years. We had the same car without any problems. This is NOT a usual ATF ,only use the one for CVT.
The engine is a little small for the AC, the rpm will rise if the AC is on.
Check the AC for leaks, it often happens.

Correcting myself: i see there is no TPS on the R50; likely an integral part of the throttle body (? Anybody?), which is a kinda spendy part if ur not positive it is faulty. There are other sensors; manifold pressure sensor for one. Im not sure if a vacuum leak would throw a high idle code.
