Supercharger air ducting missing?

Newbie question here - on a 2003 R53 should we have ducting or something installed in the underneath of the bonnet? Mine is bare under the bonnet. The photo below appears to have apparatus on the hood that would seem to guide air flow to the intercooler. Feel like mine is missing something.

The photo is kinda crumby should just be some foam sealing the flow to the intercooler.

If that is your MINI in the photo it looks correct from what I can see.

Intercooler ducting AWOL

Here is mine. Clearly something is missing from the underside of the hood. I have, at the moment, pulled the bonnet scoop off to repaint so that's why the hood opening looks peculiar.

Yes there is a plastic duct piece missing. My guess is the previous owner removed it so he could use an aftermarket diverter like a DDM or M7. Mine is gone too so my DDM fits. I don't feel that piece is really necessary.

I'd be more concerned with those mushroomed strut tops.

Is this the solution to mushrooming? or something similar? http://www.madnessmotorworks.com/mad...nt-plates.aspx

How difficult of a repair is that?

Yes, you are missing parts. It looks like you are missing the hood scoop also.

Search the Forums under R50/R53 for mushroom and you should get several threads that tell you how to repair. You will need a jack, 2X4 and a hammer. It does not sound like it is hard to fix. I was lucky, mine are fine, and I put Strut Tower Defenders on mine as soon as I bought it.

Yep - I took the actual scoop off to remedy a crappy paint job from a previous owner. Scoop was painted a weird shade of black and was horribly chipped. I wet sanded it down and then plasti-dipped the scoop. Looks a thousand percent better now.

It looks like you are missing the duct that goes underneath the hoodscoop. The part number should be 51137155597 we keep it in stock and list for $67.96. We also have a coupon code TENOFF, that is goo for ten percent off an order.

Sean - does that also include the rubber gasket that seals the duct and intercooler together when the hood is shut? Seems like there are two pieces. Also, as you might be able to tell in the photo from my hood, there is an aftermarket K&N style air filter in there from a previous owner. Will that pose any difficulty with the hood vent?

The seal should be part number 51131502776. As for the filter it should not be a problem, they are typically designed to work with the scoop.
