R50/53 ABS error and then clutch woes.
ABS error and then clutch woes.
2005 JCW with 63000 miles. ABS popped on then the shifting became difficult to impossible into the gates of the forward throws (R 1st 3rd and 5th). Shifts fine with ignition off. No apparent leaks at either master or slave. Tried the gravity bleed with a board on the clutch pedal for 24 hours. Fired it up, shifted fine then after 10 minutes back to the difficult shift pattern. Has anyone had a master go bad internally without a leak? Makes sense to me that internal piston wear would not necessarily lead to a leak. It seems to be a pressure problem that can be alleviated a bit by clutch pedal pumping. Any ideas or other avenues? Ordered a new master and slave, just hope it was the right path. When idiling and clutch depressed the car will move slightly forward when attempting to engage 1st. Shift cables appear fine as the car shift fine with ignition off. Would a bad clutch master throw an ABS code due to lack of system pressure?
Did you pull the plastic bellows back on the slave? Sometime you won't see it leak until you do pull the plastic back and fluid will rush out.
Does the pedal feels different ? With the new slave make sure the once you take off the slave from the feeding line make sure the the nipple is attached back to the like, sometimes you have it fish it out if the old slave. I'm not sure why you light came on.
Did you hear any TO bearing noises before this?
