R50/53 Swift Springs and BC coilovers help please...
Swift Springs and BC coilovers help please...
An old question here that's been covered before, but I just wanted to check the information is still accurate - What spring rates and lengths do you chaps opt for when replacing the BC BR Series coilovers with Swift Springs on a R53 Mini used for fast road and occasional track days running 205/45/17 tyres?
From what I can see from reading older threads the model of choice for Swift springs are Front z65-152-chosen spring rate and Rear z65-178-chosen spring rate
Is this still the current choice of replacement spring with 8kg/mm up front with 6kg/mm or does anyone have any better suggestions?
Any help anyone can offer on this will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Rich

I always thought this guy Greek Drifter did his homework pretty well.
Here's a quote from page 12 of his build thread. He has swift springs and koni yellows I believe.

well i couldn't give a good opinion on the matter because i haven't experience other setups, but over stock springs and blown shocks. yes, they are much better. The car handles very well and feels excellent for daily driving. i just want to tune it better i feel the rear need a bit more dampening so does the front.
the fronts drop 0.7" and rear 0.5" so its not much but it does drop it enough to make it look nice and fill in the gap. wasn't interested in "dropping' the car i need to be able to drive over things. and not swerve all over the road because there's a pebble.
and the spring rates are front 280lb/in(5k/mm) and rear 308lb/in(5.5k/mm)
as for drive ways no, speed bumps arent a problem either.

Find your corner weights (or approximations) and calculate your wheel frequencies. If you know what frequency you're targeting that will give you an idea of what your spring rate should be. Then go out and measure the unloaded length of the springs you currently have on the car and that will give you length. Or call whoever you're planning on buying your swift springs from and see if they have any suggestions? Any reason you're stuck on Swift? Hyperco and Eibach are both good as well.
FWIW we've run 350lb/in front/rear which was good. Now we're running 450lb/in front/rear on custom valved koni doubles. It's a pretty firm ride on the street though. For a dual duty car I'd look more towards 350lb/in.
