Monster pothole/debris, trans issues

Hey all!

Unfortunately last night I hit a monster pothole...followed by the large chunk of cement that came out of it. I was slowing to make a left turn and it was right at the seam between asphalt/cement and I didn't even see it until it was too late :( The engine rpm was a little rough so I decided to pull into a parking lot to check the damage. Unfortunately when the light turned green I discovered the clutch pedal was stuck to the floor and the gearshift frozen(tow truck pointed out some kind of oil/fluid on the road behind me).

At 12 years old and almost 100k miles(4/02 build) I'm wondering if you guys think it'll fall within the meager value or if I should start looking at alternative vehicles? The adjuster probably will not get back to me until next week.

Not-hilariously, 30 seconds after alerting the police to my situation an officer drove the other way and asked if I was okay. Turns out he was called to check on the other TWO people who damaged their cars on the same hole/debris.

I checked some diagrams on realoem but I'm at a loss for what could have done the damage.

Might be worth making a claim with the State or local authorities over the pothole to try and have them cover the damage their road made to your vehicle.

Yes, something either hit the slave cylinder by the transmission it sounds like.

Hope you can get things straighten out with the insurance / local township.

Good luck.

well good luck filing a claim with city/state

I just had something very similar happen. I swerved to avoid debris in the road and found a pothole than ended in China. I all but ripped off the right front wheel and trashed both right side wheels and tires. Tie rod, control arm, hub, rotor . . .

$3000 IF all the parts presently going on fixes it, IOW if the sub-frame isn't bent.

I immediately called my insurance and they simply see it as a single party collision . . . of course you probably have different insurance so good luck.
