Hey Moderators

I think there's room for another forum called the "Mini **** Talk" where we can continue to talk about things that other owners just don't quite get

Just thought that would be a nice additional forum for us to share ideas on how to keep our Mini in MINT condition in any circumstances. For example, I would like some tips on how to survive taking my Mini to large events (concerts, etc) and come out without regrets. What to do when caught in the rain, heavy traffic, unexpected construction, etc. Though I would like to know how to get one of those "beater" camoflage car cover in that Hyndai commercial LOL. Don't need advanced detailing 1001. We already know how to do that in our sleep.

I'd never take my MINI to a concert or ballgame! In the nearly two years of ownership, I've taken it to the mall only three or four times and never to a grocery store. If it's not in my garage, then it's at work in the employee lot and if I don't get an end spot I park slightly closer to the passenger side (co-workers don't carpool) of the neighboring cars. I pay attention to who's parked next to me. And when I get off work I do a visual inspection (walk around).

I know that was a dumb question...there is no way to survive a concert unless you don't care about your car. Or...you have connections and a special spot that's guarded. Oh, I forgot I'm not a rock star

I used to be **** about cars. With the MINI, I drive and smile in all conditions, keep fresh oil inside, fresh wax outside, and park in end spots. Did the same with my Porsche too. I just can't see the sense in not enjoying the car to its fullest at the expense of some road dirt

Speaking of grocery stores (evil!) and Porsches (good!)...

Last summer I was walking through a grocery store parking lot and eyed a BEAUTIFUL yellow Boxster S parked in one of the end parking spaces with it's top down. As I slowly walked by, an SUV (Ford Excessive) backed into the end space directly in front of the Boxster. As I watched him back in, I heard a terrible sound and saw the Boxster jolt backwards. The Excessive driver had left the trailer hitch ball in the receiver (which was protruding about a foot) and had buried it in the nose of the Boxster.

The Excessive driver got out, looked at the Porsche, pulled out of the space and parked on the other side of the lot. I was apalled! I couldn't let this happen, so I returned to my car and drove over to where the Excessive was parked and wrote the plate and vin number down on my notepad. Returning to the Boxster, I scribbled down my info and tucked the piece of paper in the car out of casual view.

I never did hear from the Boxster owner and I have never seen either vehicle since. I'd like to think that if it were MY car, someone would do the same for me. I hope he/she found the piece of paper....

FWIW,

Theo

Well... I park in BFE to avoid cars on either side but....

    He lives outside.
I perfected manual-transmission driving on him.
Taught a friends son how to drive a stick.
Have completely given up on cleaning my wheels.
Park under a giant pin oak in my driveway.
Ran on bald tires for about a month.
Just changed my air filter after 33k (assumed the dealer had done this at 20k)
Will let pretty much anyone with a liscence have a go.
And run him in rain, snow, sleet, on salted roads, by the beach, in the desert, to malls and grocery stores, and to one ball game.

BUT... he always gets premium fuel and a healthy coating of Zaino with each wash!

I am new to car care, but I am learning fast. My MINI is my first new car and the only car that I've ever loved. I drive it in all conditions (my only car) and I eat and drink in it. I just spend a few minutes each day cleaning up after myself, and wash it once a week, and my MINI gets an end parking spot, and a garage to sleep in, and I use a lint brush on the seats ever-so-gently, and I use a soft towel to pick up any dust on the dash, and I clean the windows with pure water, and...

    Okay, count me in.
