The Subarus just don't fit into that. The new Mazda 3 wagon does handle a little better than the Subarus but also remember it is basically a Ford Focus. I really didn't find anything with handling and low price. I ended up with the Honda Element. The handling was the best for the siz SUV it is and I got a really good price. So far I am a month in and no trips to the dealer for warranty work. How odd is that.
'04 MCS, 9,500+ miles, ZERO dealer vists for warranty repairs. How's that?

The MINI is the first car I ever had that I had dealer visits before 10,000 miles. I would consider a car pretty much new up to 15,000 miles or so.

re:

I am selling my 03 20th Anniversary GTI. The mushy suspension was improved a little bit in the 20ths. Problem is all the GTI's should be like the 20th and they aren't which is a shame. After owning a 01 1.8t and this, I would never buy a regular GTI 1.8t, only way to go is pick up a 20th anniversary. Pretty modded and she has been very good to me, never had a problem with her (knock knock) My buddy owns a R32 and I thought about getting one, but can't see paying 30k plus for a car not much different than mine. Sure it has all that wonderful displacement and AWD, but it is a big fat pig. and VW cut some corners like the Konig seats are mostly pleather. The only leather on them is the centers. They atleast put recaros in mine. Oh and the OZ's have to go on that R32, you can get them on regular GTI's now.

The Top Gear TV show in the UK tests just about every sporty car they can get their hands on. Same driver, same track each time. The Golf R32 is one of the slowest cars they've ever tested around the track, down there with some of the tiny grocery getter sedans. Apparently it's not such a good combo of power, weight and grip. The Cooper S is in the upper middle of the pack, not far behind the STi and EVO (the real ones, not the watered down US versions) The upper ranks are mostly filled with supercars and exotics, each costing about as much as a fleet of MINI's!

a car to consider

I have a sugestion...

I can't imagine NOT having a MINI, but to address the need for a vehicle more passenger and cargo friendly, take a look at the Scion xB.

We got rid of our Mercedes and got one. With aftermarket sway bars, lowering springs, and light weight wheels with summer tires, it handles quite well. Horsepower is low, but slow cars can be fun. Superchargers and turbos are available.

It draws lots of attention, though not like a MINI. You can mod like there's no tomorrow..... The speedometer is in the correct place...

The back seat is easy to get in and out of, with gobs of room..

It is just the right size to be the "box" that a MINI is shipped in... LOL!

We test drove the 325xi wagon and it was a REALLY nice car, wound up buying the Audi A6 Quattro All Road with the 2.7 twin turbo V-6......it'll put hair on your chest......awesome, fun machine. Mean motor and very, very respectable in the twisties......you just might want to try one on.....
