Hi!

well I want to share my angry/frustration/

On Friday I got a bottle of meguiar's NXT Tech Wax, my car was very dirty because we had some rain a day before, so I was happy that I was going to spent the afternoon pampering my mini. well when I finished washing it I started drying it and then I found it!!!!!!!! on the right door under the handler an about 10cm scratch!!!! damn I used scratch X and wax and well it didn't disappear at all . Actually it is hard to see but damn! I know it is there and besides it is the first one. Well I needed to say it and I know a lot here will understand me!.

On a side note NXT stuff.. GREAT!!!!! in dark colors gives a fantastic look!

Congratulations,

You've broken your duck. Your MINI is now officially ready to be run hard and put up wet.

The first one is always the hardest. My car has so many scars now, they've become part of its personality.

Motor On Dude

p.s. Welcome to the Tribe

I highly recommend a bottle of 3M "Perfect it" scratch remover. It removes scratches about 1500 grit and it is clearcoat safe. Follow up after application with your fav polish/wax.

I don't know how deep your scratch is, but for light scratches I found that the Langka wetsand 2000 kit works well. langka web site

http://www.promini.com/products/doorguards.shtml
$15.95 for a pair
OR

http://www.promini.com/products/parksmart.shtml
$11.95 for a pair in yellow- I think they would be good in black.

Once scratched and paint is removed then paint first with a heavy bead of OEM paint then let dry and use Langka
http://www.langka.com/newsite/index2.html
But langka comes in two forms, one for light scratches where there is no real paint loss just a surface scratch on the clear coat and the other for paint chips and deep scratches-both work really well and are worth the cost and effort to repair.

I'm not so sure I recommend Langka. If you read the products website and watch the video, so easy that a little girl can do it--that is drop on touch up paint---she certainly isn't removing it!

Langka to me is like wetsanding with smelly mollasas. The result of a Langka fix IS better than just a blob, but it's also not a cure all. If you're not careful, you'll end up putting scratches into the areas surrounding the blob, since the cloth you use with Langka equates to a very fine grit sand paper. Interesting stuff, but be careful.

I must be the only person on this board who uses this, but I've fixed lots of scratches on various cars using a "Preval" spray bottle. It' a bottle and can of propellant that will turn your brush on touch-up into spray paint. You can get it at an auto paint store for about $5.00. It may also be available at Lowe's and Home Depot. For larger scratches I've had waaay better results than when using any sort of brush on touch-up. You can get a professional looking result with this. If brush on repairs don't make you happy, try it.

I have to agree with Octaneguy here. Langka is generally a good product but requires a certain degree of practice, skill and care to use it properly. Langka is a mix of paint solvent and rubbing compound. The stuff really stinks and you have to use it in a well ventilated area.

We all share your pain. Mine was broken in at a Lowe's Home Improvement parking lot when the owner of a neighboring car bopped my roof with a 2x4 leaving an inch long ding. That was quickly followed by the usual inconsiderate dinging by way of the neighboring door.

Having been tagged, at least I'm no longer ultra-obsessive and am probably more relaxed in parking lots.

I have used both the blob removal and the clear coat Langka product. I had fair results with the blob removal. I can still see the repainted chip, but it's not nearly as noticeable. The clear coat repair is awesome though. I had a number of clearcoat scratches in my black A-frame pillars and the front of my black roof. The Langka clearcoat repair gave me excellent results. You just have to follow the instructions to the letter. The wetsanding step is quite scary. I used the product outside so I did not notice any smell.

Hi To All!

First thanks for the support LOL now i feel better and actually more relaxed and less obsessive about leaving the car on the parking lot, I think I was expecting this sooner or later (to bad it wasn't later)

Second thanks to the ones who recommended products to fix the scratch unfortunately I'm in Mexico and those are hard to find, lucky me I'll have a business travel next month so well I'll get what I need. My only question is how may luggage pieces do you recommend me to carry to bring car care products? LOL kidding.

Thanks to all!

The first scratch was the worst because I watched it happen. Some dude in a Nissan pick-up was backing up and started aiming towards MINI. I was 30yrds away watching, expecting him to stop. As he drew closer I started yelling, running towards him, arms flailing. But to no avail. The sound was worse than the damage. His rear bumper creamed my rear s-lite. Thank god no bodywork damage
They even tried to get away with it by not telling me and noting it on the service sheet!!! They told me to get estimates. This ever happened to any of you before? How was it handled?

i figure it's only a matter of time before the doors on my mini get dinged up -- my house has a very narrow driveway, one side of which is lined with a rusty chain link fence.

i'm thinking of picking up some of the clear door guards (just the edge guard type) to prevent too much chipping.

it seems simpler than refencing my neighbor's yard.

At least my first scratch was my own doing. I was trying to close the rear hatch holding my key in my hand like a moron, and put a nice small scratch in the paint when I pushed the hatch down. My wife was there to witness my stupidity and I tried to pull it off like it was no big deal, but she was trying not to laugh all the way home.
