a cam, 440 - 550cc injectors, CAI, header, aftermarket cat.back, 15-19% supercharger pulley. And to top it all off a custom tune. The difference in performance will pucker your butt.

Not sure exactly what you mean by "run right" so I'll try & help with the basics.

Any of the BVH's RMW or TPR can be bolted on & driven "as is" and the ECU will adapt "well enough" until you can get it tuned, but you should at the very least work a tune into your immediate future.

As far as "Performing" to the best of it's abilities, that's different.
At the very least you need to look into a header (I ran mine for a while w/ the OEM JCW system & not only did I get nowhere near the performance potential I should have, but in order to tune it even close it had to be tuned extremely lean to compensate for the "plugging" effect of the exhaust, which in turn made it so that once I did add the header it had to be re-tuned Immediately in order to not burn something up)
After a header, everything else is just a PLUS and can be worked around with the tune, if you decide not to do everything.
But yes, to get the Full Potential, all of the above steps AC mentioned, should be taken.

Oh, even though you didn't ask I'll add this, any of them are also Completely DD friendly & should work for many miles, mine has 130k on it & the only reason I'm changing it, is to try something different.

The head is only around $2500 give or take. I cant see them charging that much labor, I had a labor price from my mechanic awhile back for like $500-600 to swap a head.

I have the rmw head, header, dominator cam, 440 cc injectors and tune.

I would not go to anyother source for serious performance parts as its of the best quality and engineering. Im not here to say the other brands are bad, just inferior.

Running only 14psi boost through a 14% redux pulley I was able to achieve 255whp.

For reference, I was able to get all parts, labour, tune etc etc for under 6k.

It is extremly reliable as ive driven 1500miles w/o stoping except for gas and still got about 30 mpg. I would not just put on a head and drive it w/o tune.

Call jan, ask him what he thinks the bare minimum would be for the bvh.
Depends on what you want.

What are your goals for the car?

I think the MINI freindly shop around here would charge double that, and the dealer - triple that for labor.

But you failed to say that for that price is everything you need to be safe installed. Head, header, injectors, tuned ready to drive.

ive been wondering the same thing about the BVH, but i have heard that doing head work is just as reliable some times more depending on the pressures put on a smaller valve. but shoddy worksmanship will always show.

look at hennesy, he gives a 3 year warranty on his heads since he has proven that his heads are better than factory, creating reliable power

Honestly when it comes to BVH's & the other ness. goodies, the biggest issue for most people is "sticker shock", mostly because getting the 1st 30-40 extra hp out of your Mini is reletively simple & inexpensive, but that next level is considerably more expensive, and the levels after that are even worse as far as $/hp.
