I tell them what it costs, what it comes with, and how great it is.
They nod, some don't get it,but most do,and wish they had one

The first time I ever saw one in real life I asked all of those questions. The gentleman was real nice and even let me sit in it. He had the chrome interior with blue lapis seats. The first thing out of my mouth was "Wow, this is beeeeauuuutiful." And most likely because of that first encounter, I will be soon the proud owner of one!

I had somebody ask me this today, referring to it as a "budget car." I informed him that Crevier's markup over MSRP alone is twice the value of his '99 Accord!

I get ask all the time and everytime I get a DANG IT COSTS THAT MUCH?!?!?!

I tell them it starts at 17K and they still think it costs too much for its size... and then when I tell them my out the door price they think i'm crazy and stupid for buying it.

All these people drive generic civic, accord, camry people... and of course those car as "cheaper" price wise than the MINI and LARGER so in their book i'm stupid.

I too feel irritated when some stranger or someone I don't know too well
asks me how much my car costs. My cars are personal to me, I don't
need to explain such personal info to some nobody.

I suddenly act like I don't understand English. very convenient...

Sometimes people feel they have to justify their poor choices by belittling others - after all, their camry is bigger (bigger is better - right?) and a little cheaper than your MINI. Of course, its also a sheep-in-a-herd-of-sheep in every way - mediocre in everything it does. If you aspire to be average in every way, please, get a camry or a cute little SUV. Granted, some people will buy a MINI so they can have one of those "cute little cars". But many others get a MINI because it is exactly what they want. I got mine because it is the perfect blend of practicality and personality - and if it means I have to put up with silly questions and boorish behaviour, so be it. When I was driving my car home from the dealership, I stopped at a rest stop, and a guy spent some time examining the car. He finally said "well, it does look pretty nice and all, but I just can't imagine paying $60,000 for one". I told him it was worth every penny, and drove off.

Phil
and thats a fact

Well what do you expect from people who buy cars to get from point A to point B? I'm certainly not that kind of person. I can not stand driving a borring car. Its just not me. I had a Camry before the MINI, not by choice and I didnt enjoy it. I wouldnt waste money on a civic, accord or camry. Too borring too generic, nothing special, no uniqueness... If I cant afford a better car then i'll save my money till i can. Some people need to know / understand not everything is bought 100% for practicality. Those people who critized me prob waste money on other stuff that i think is useless while I waste money on my cars... To each and their own... but I just wish they dont make such idiotic remarks when they dont know what the car really is, what the car offers for a given price. Sure there might be other cars out there better than the MINI and for a cheaper price... but thats few... so few that I have trouble finding so I'm happy with my MINI.

Sorry had to rant a little... get it out of my system.

Yes, people do ask about the price of my Wanda. I generally chat them up, recommend several MINI dealerships, and give them the price range. They are always pleased!

The MINI is a wonderful value for its price. I am happy to share the good news!

Wow, old thread!

People ask me and they are shocked it didn't cost and arm and a leg. I am under the impression that the masses think because it's a BMW it's gotta to be expensive.

Depends what you consider a mercedes...

Most of the higher end Mercs do cost more then BMWs...I think thats about half of their models. Doesn't help that the E46 looks like a civic..

I guess it depends on the reason they are asking. People with an attitude get a smart-**** answer. People who are genuinely interested in the car get a sales pitch!

I didn't see this thread the first time it came around... but yeah people ask all th time. ...Most often think its REALLY expensive because they heard its made by BMW.

The day I picked up my MCS I took two buddies out for a test drive. I'd been so excited about picking up the car that I'd neglected to take the paperwork from the glove box when I'd returned home from the dealership.

Well... I'll be damned if one of my two buds doesn't open the g-box, pull out the paperwork and start going over it. By the time I realized what he was up to ...he's like "Holy $h!t, you paid THIS much!? At which point the guy in the back grabbed the sheet. Meanwhile I'm going too fast to feel comfortable to reach over, ****** my sales receipt.

Aren't buddies the best!? Both deserved a good cuff to the melon, but as I still can recall I was in the glow of the moment and couldn't have forced myself to remain upset with them for long. It'd have taken surgeons to remove the perma-grin from my face that day!

I ment ones in the same class.

IE same optioned 3 series vs a C class and a E vs a 5 series

I've built Cs and Es vs 3s and 5s and I think some of them equally equipped the BMW came out a little more.

But the thing is people just "think" Mercedes are much more expensive than BMWs the C starts lower than the 3.

What's annoying is when they ask, "how much did you spend on all that stuff" Stuff?? Even more annoying is when others ask if they can order one just like mine Huh???

To be honest with you I just stated in my intial response to the thread that people think bmws are expensive...not a mention of mercs.

At the same price point I would buy a bmw because it's just a better car...at least at the lower price sprectrum. Unfortunately or fortunately, I read enough to know that the low end mbs are overpriced and problematic...that might even include the mid priced E as well.

Oh wells... enough being off topic. I rather buy a BMW than a Merc as I like the driving feel of BMW more.
