You can actually burn it on a CD and I'll pay $10.00 plus $2.87 postage for a copy.

The head of my bank came out the other day and got in, looked at the engine, etc. and said he wants one. That makes five people at my bank that want one.

I don’t understand why some of you are offended if you’re asked the price of your MINI. However, there are many things that I don’t understand.

Why do so many people Photochop out their license plate numbers when posting a pic of their car - - I assume that they drive their cars around town without blanking out their license plates.

Why do so many people whine about MINI reliability instead of just driving and enjoying their wonderful little car or selling it and buying a Kia or something else that will satisfy them.

Why do so many people - - - no more - the list of things that I don’t understand would be endless.

I am finding how well MINIs breakdown the antisocial barriers so prevalent in SoCal. It really is a nice change of pace to be asked questions and I always take the time to answer all the questions.

Nick T.; Welcome to the Far Side...........

As to price, my line is "The standard job is like 19.5" and their jaws usually drop to the floor and want to know MORE. I also dutifully inform the curious that they should really stay away from BRG jobs as they are known to be highly problematic and they are like frogs....the more you see em, the uglier they get.....

I do get asked all the time whether at an event or at a parking lot.
I tell them the base price with destination fee of an MC and MCS. With options of between $1300 to $4000 more.

For some it is cheap and for others it is too much.

It's all cool to me. I just hope they don't think the wood finish dash is a standard feature!

I love getting asked if my IB/Wht was a custom paint job? I point out the vinyl was added, but they are so impressed with the white roof and mirrors. LOL.

I get asked all the time. I feel flattered on the cars behalf. I think people think something this cool that looks this special, must have come at a premium.

>>People ask me how much ALL my cars cost.

Just a guess here, but with all the cars and bikes you own 2minis, wouldn’t that be about $2,000,000.

might I suggest a paint job as your next mod...................

Shortly after I got my car ,my wife and I went to see the Italian job.As we were walking out of the theater, she timidly asked me if we were going to have to drive home like "that".The guy behind us started laughing, and I took my key with the mini logo on it and held it behind my head ,so that he could easily see it."you have one of those things?" he asked.when I said yes, he said"oooooooooooooooooo....

Yes people always ask the price right after they ask how I like my "little car" and what's the gas mileage on "that thing". I never tell people how much I paid for my MCS; and it's tasteless for them to ask IMHO. I don't mind telling them the base price for the cooper and the S models- add your own special features and the cost goes up from there! A lot of people are quite shocked to know that it is actually an affordable car.

Also being in NE Ohio, it will be fun to tell the curious ones that IB is no longer available. Too bad you didn't pick a discontinued color. But that BRG - I think with the problems they've had with those jobs (do they maybe make all the BRGs on Monday morning?), nobody will want a BRG anyway.

BUT, I was actually stunned at the price. Considering they are now made by BMW, and it's such a hot ticket item, I thought they were a lot more.

I don't mind when people ask the price of my MC. Most of the time they are surprised that it cost (a little) less than $20K. Another common question is where I take it for servicing.....hmmm, come to think of it, that's a very good question...lol

Curious. Why is it rude to ask someone how much something costs? Especially when the info can be found easily in a number of places. ???

I operate a high-end furniture business. I have the MCS parked in front every day. Each day I will have 2-4 people stop in just to ask questions about the car. As a matter of fact, I was delayed in responding to this post by one such person! On an average week, I probably discuss my car with folks on 20 different occasions. I have let a couple people take it out for a spin. I have developed a couple profitable deals by doing this! After all, they are the people funding my fun!!!

Around here the top question has to do with how fast the is the car. This is closely followed by the price. I just tell them it's fast enough to get a ticket in all 50 states and the sticker was around $22k. I don't have a problem of anyone asking the price. After all, as mentioned a few times before, it is public knowledge and people are curious.

To touch on a question brought up earlier in the thread....... One reason people blank out their number plates is because some car thief rings go "shopping" online. Through connections, or hacking, they can access DMV records to find out where the car is located at. There's a thread about this on Mini2.

I always have my car parked in a "protected" area. If anyone wants to test out my security system, my MA tag # is XMINIX.

BTW, the system equipment is manufactured by Glock and has been through extensive testing.

Well it happens to me, but the question is what bothers me the less. Then the following phrase usually is "It is too expensive" sometimes followed by "It is not a family car" other times they say "family can't travel on it" or "too much money for a car that small"

And I think Who said I wanted a family car? (My wife already has that one)
Who said I was looking for something big?
more important Whose money did I use to buy the car?

At the end of the day.... I'm a happy owner of a fantastic MCS

I (like most others) get asked this ALL the time. Almost every time I fill up, or am out washing my car, or getting out in a crowded lot etc.

Usually it's "is it fast?" followed by "how much?" and then an astonished "wow, I thought they were much more than that". Gas mileage creeps in there quite often as well. My reply to the gas mileage question is always: "EPA rated, or the way _I_ drive it?". Most people are quite shocked to learn the gas mileage for my CVT is only rated @ 25mpg city.... they ask with the assumption that small cars have insane mileage. Usually I counter this with "it's much more sport than it is economy, really".

I've always wondered this though... why do so many people find it rude to ask how much things cost? I have no problem telling anyone who asks; as others have said, it's information ANYONE can find out for themselves with a little effort... is it really THAT personal to have bought a car? Now if they asked: "can you actually afford that car?", I might be offended (as my SO's wonderful grandfather did at dinner recently, after telling me my "daddy" bought it for me.... note that I paid for every dime myself and haven't recieved a cent from either of my parents in years for ANYTHING).

I first get asked (most often) about gas mileage. "Does that thing get good mileage?" "Not the way I drive it."

I am not torqued off by people curious about what it costs. It doesn't really matter to me if they know I bought a car that "base price is $18 for the regular one and $20 for the supercharged one". I don't care what they think of my financial prowess (or lack thereof). I didn't buy this or any other car so people will think I am loaded. I bought this car because it is the most fun you can have on the road. And that is what I try to relate to them.
Usually I like to chat for a second or two with folks. And I still like the fact that they are rare enough out here in the sticks (Terre Haute, IN) that folks ask.

The only question that makes me want to come back with a smartass reply is "Do you like it?"
"No, I hate it and that's why I bought it"

Enjoy yours!

IMO, it is rude to ask someone's weight, age, salary and value of house, etc. I am talking about a total stranger asking these things. When I first saw the Mini, I researched it and found out my options. I didn't stop people and ask what they paid for their car.

The other evening as I was going into a store, some guy said, "Hey-how much did that car cost?" I thought that was rude, but that's me and I am not intrusive with strangers, so there you have it. We are all different.

I just got back from a much needed and too short vacation to Orlando. Got 34.5MPG on the highway at 75-80MPH! I know that Downtown MINI in Orlando has sold bunches of these but we got stopped at least 5 times a day w/ questions about the car. We have loads of them in Jacksonville but many people still just don't seem to know anything about them. My wife is upset because we just had a second MCS show up in our apartment complex before I could afford to buy her one (she didn't want the car to begin w/ now "steals" it every chance she gets). I told her I didn't buy it because I wanted to be the only one, I bought it because it was fun. I had a Dodge Ram 4x4 Sport Quad Cab in solar yellow, that was noticably different but for different reasons. For those offended by the money questions, I just say they start at xxx and go up from there just like everything else in life. Drive, Enjoy the jelous stares, and park it in the smallest tightest parking spots available!

Yes - I usually tell them "It's not for sale."

Then they want to know how fast it goes, I tell them "fast enough to get in trouble".

The real PITA folks are the ones that say:

"What kind of car is that"
"MINI"
"Yeah, but who makes it"
"MINI"
"No, I mean Ford, Dodge, Shivvy?"
"MINI"
