Downtube Delete

Just lookin at my MINI today and felt like removing the two downtubes in the console would make it feel a little more spacious. Obviously this is easy, but are there any existing mods to fill the holes and blank spaces that they cover? Anyone already do something like this?

How about using some plastic sheeting and forming it to the shape while adding some texture? Or you could use the contrast color of the dash.

^^this

My right knee presses against the tube on hard left turns, gives nice lateral support.

+1
A few companies have made nice padded leather covers, full or partial....makes then softer to lean on/bump....
Removing them makes me wonder if you will see more squeeks/rattles...
Be sure to post pictures, and let us know how you like it.

I was considering it for a while, I don't know if I'll go for it one day, but my idea was to modify the stock downtubes so that they would end flush with the control panel and make a part that would go across the bottom so that it would look more finished.
