Exhaust mod

Wanting a little more sound out of the exhaust, I miss the pops and such on the down shifts that my SRT4 had. Dont have money for a $$$$ catback. Any cheap mod's ya'll have done?

IF you have a r53...you can remove the first box, the resonator....
This is called a ONE-BALL mod...
a bit more sound....a loss of weight...cost...maybe $50-75...or free if you know how to weld....

Agreed; the most cost-effective exhaust upgrade is that "one-ball" exhaust. A cheap muffler shop could do that for you for not too much hassle or cost.

Have you looked at the classifieds here on NAM? Maybe someone selling an aftermarket Borla, Magnaflow, or Milltek cat-back. Or try eBay or Craigslist.

There could be guys "parting out" their MINIs, too, to sell them.

Lastly, maybe car junk yards...

Looks nice, would complete the rear end more compared to the stock exhaust.

Yes it's the one on the right (USA passenger side)

I'll be doing this mod soon (my birthday is coming up) and plan to ask the muffler shop about some kind of bracket or small pipe that can go from the left side muffler over to the exhaust hangers on the right side.

I like eliminating that resonater, increasing sound a little, but I don't want to loose any support.

Ps. There's a great diagram of the mod in the stickies, find the ultimate newby guide or something like that, then on the first page of that there's a link to a very extensive list of exhaust options.

Edit: here's the link to where this diagram is: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=23789

you should get a 3inch straight pipe from the cat, all the way back. a catback. it will give you a deep rich sound and pop and burble a lot. it sounds amazing, you can look up videos on youtube. just search "straight pipe mini cooper". for everything it may cost around $500 maybe less. and im pretty sure you wont lose any power. i've seen some minis actually gain some power.

If it fit's any of the other R53's it should fit the 06. Nothing changed in the body especially from 05 to 06.

Do you have this system? How would you rated? It looks good for the price.

I think the hangers on the 02-04 are different than 05-06

I wonder about drone, I love the sound of Invidia, borla sounds good too but it drones plus is expensive

one ball and straight pipe would be the cheapest

its like $5 a foot for 3 inch pipe... so prolly like $100 to $150 at a muffler shop, maybe a bit more...

Try this. I love it and it sounds really nice with well deserved 'POPS' as you down shift. Look around for the price though. I got mine for $250

my friend just straight piped his mustang and it costed him 96.45 TOTAL, so i imagine for a mini cooper it would cost maybe 80 bucks.
