R50/53 MINI,s on the lot
When I got My MINI 10 months ago the dealer had 15+ MINI,s on the lot, today 5,so is this a good thing,,, or just between model year
Do the dealers buy, order, speculate, a certain amount of units, then special order .MY MINI came off the lot . NO WAITING, walk in ,drive out,

I had a deposit on a 03 MCS at a California dealer and was about to wait 6 to 8 months to get it.
Found the same car in Hawaii setting on he lot. Minihune here on NAM let me know about the Chill Red MINI and the rest is history.
I bought the car, had it shipped to Oakland Ca, drove over and picked up the car in perfect condition.
Really didn't save alot by buying in Hawaii, saved some, did pay MSRP, and even after shipping still saved more than I would have buying the same car in Ca.
Plus the very best thing....no long wait

When I ordered my MINI two years ago every MINI on the lot was sold, when I picked my car you in Aug. 2002, they had one Cooper and one S for demonstrators and all the cars on the lot were sold.
Last August I went in for service and the showroom was completely empty and a Radio Control MINI was sitting in the prime display position and they on had one test car of each model and nothing else to show and only two cars waiting to be delivered. My MA said he had already sold allocation for the month and was awaiting the next months allocation so he could start placing orders against it.
I called last week to order some touch-up paint and my MA said only 5 or 6 cars were available to sell, and they still could use more allocation....
I think MINI/BMW is at full production and are being careful not to add production and over produce like Chrysler did with their Mini Vans and PT Cruisers and then have to give them away.
I think they are being very smart keeping production where it is at..it keeps demand high and they don't have to cut their prices.

Compared to last year the demand is still very strong and there are very few MINIs in stock. I think I read that last year about 95% of all MINIs sold were ordered so in general there should be about 3 or 4 in stock at any one time.
Sometimes the demand for MC vs MCS swings back and forth so one month there are no MCS and the next month no MC for sale in stock.
I think the dealer has no trouble selling any MINI they can get in. While some dealers will sell used MINIs many are not set up for that.
