Alternate Boot switch.. $6.41

Hello,

I just purchased a 02 cooper with a bad trans and some issues for my g/f. The car was really dirty and a little beat up but now it's on it's way to being back to presentable.

I was messing with the boot and realized the switch was not working, the original burgess (v4nc was the best # i could get off of it) was corroded to Hello. I looked online and the cheapest i could find the switch was about $45, but i thought there has to be a cheaper way! After some searching, I ended up going with McMaster-Carr part # 8085T11 $6.41, it's a sealed wash-down switch with solder on connectors. This switch fits the posts perfect and has three solder tabs, use the NO tabs. I did have to make one modification because the plunger was a little short, that was to make a shim and glue it to the lock handle where it contacts the switch (i used a NY metro card as it's slightly thinner than credit card) I then covered my solder connections with some RTV, and voila fixed boot switch!

Next time ill take some pics!

-Tom
