I bought a Craftsman tool bag at Sears; works perfectly.

Proper wrenches, sockets. A wire stripper and electrical tape, screwdrivers. And the phone # for MINI road service.

I keep flashlight, tire pressure gauge, tire plug kit, air pump, plyers, stock MINI tool kits, rag, funnel, etc. I also carry a small fire extinguisher but it doesn't fit in the bag.

I have Mini tool kit, quart of oil, 12v air pump with pressure gauge and an LED light, a headlamp, some shop towels and some spot wax. Pretty sure that's it, I just have it all packed so it takes up the bottom of my boot with no bag. I don't carry a lot of stuff in the boot, and none of it jostles around. Needing anything more serious than that would probably be noticeable and I'd just fix it before I left. But hey, it's up to you, and how prepared/safe you feel leaving your house.

The MINI Tools bag is great to add the jack or if you have the jack for other tools to fit in as it can hook to the eyelets around the trunk. Always carry a set a common metrics wrenches as that might help. I have the oil quart bag in the back which sticks to the carpet. I like the storage part so things will not slide around.

That's a good start.

I need to get my tool kit back into the car. I usually keep a tool set with me for any junkyarding ventures since if I break down there's nothing I can really do on the side of the road other than change the tire without getting run over or ya know... not having the part with me.

I would have loved to have had a new belt tensioner, belt and crank pulley with me today..

I have a AAA card and a cell phone!

****

in all of my cars a small pouch with a crescent wrench (6 or 8 inch), medium flat and phillips head screw drivers (or one of those sets with several blades), standard pliers, needle nose pliers (one of these has a wire cutter); about 6 feet of stout wire (handy to tie up a muffler after a bracket busts and does not age like duct tape), a set of jumper cables and in the MINIs a DYNAPLUG kit and a silly small air compressor <run flat issues> . . . (edit ... a GOOD flashlight that I check regularly ++++ change the GOOD batteries annually!!!!)

I sew the pouches myself .. using old jeans leg as the base.

(and I carry MORE than this in the 79 ... )

First off, mine is still under warranty so I have roadside with MINI, but my other car I have roadside through USAA and only costs 60 cents a month, I'd rather get it towed to my house where I can work on it in my garage or to a repair shop than try and fix it in a parking lot.

But it is always nice to have a 10-in-one screw driver and a flashlight. Oh and of course duct tape.

According to the salesman I talked with the original Leatherman was born out of road side fixes to his car if I remember correctly. Not a bad tool(s) to have.

I guess I'm "old" school, I have a small set of tools in every car I own. I carry a set of sockets, Multi-function screw drivers, knife, a pair of vise grips, duck tape, tie wraps, a couple large hose clamps... you get the picture. Having these bailed my butt more than once. A few years back, I was in the mountains in my van about 50 miles from home. I blew a hole in the upper radiator hose. Miles to the nearest store. After it cool off I patched the hose with at Coke can that I cut up with my pliers, Tape everything up with duck tape and with the tie wraps. A trip or a few trips to the nearby stream to fill up the radiator and I was on my way home. I bought a replacement hose at the next auto store but the patch got me all the way home.
