Does anyone know if the MINI seats are made by Recaro? I have an 02 MC, standard seats in Cordoba Beige/Black leather. Today I was looking underneath the drivers seat to see if there was anything I could lubricate to stop the squeaking, and I see a Recaro sticker attached to a black bar. ??

 

I'm out to the garage right now to check. If they are, the value of the MINI just went up

 

If Recaro made the crummy quality leather of the sport seats, they probably did hide their name underneath!

 

Hmm now you've got me curious. (esp since I was considering replacing them with recaros)... curious since the fit is about the same in the Sport seats and recaro seats...

then again it could be a few college kids having a lark..
"watch me put this recaro sticker here and send the entire MINI community looking up there ****"

 

I do recall reading early on that Recaro was in fact the subcontractor on the seats in the MINI.

 

There are probably only a hand few of major seating manufacturers in the world. I wouldnt be suprised if they're Recaro but its certainly not any indicator of quality. I'm sure you'll find "BMW" on parts as well but dont let it go to your head!

My first 6-CD changer had a BMW logo on it. They replaced it, (skipping) under warranty. New CD changer looks indentical except for one thing-now it has a MINI logo on it. Let's hear it for branding! :smile:

 

Recaro is one of the biggest Tier 1 seat suppliers in the world. Another is LEAR. I am tearing off the seats this AM (time for the dreaded roll cage installation, and I have to quit procrastinating).......I'll report back....maybe....mine are the cool leather jobs......not the ones Yucca has......except since they are on a BRG.....they do suck.....and sag......just like Yucca's.......beware of the BRG jobbies....beware and do not buy......

 

The Mini seats are made by Johnson Controls (JCI). Keiper/Recaro is a big frame and seat supplier in Germany, so it's entirely possible they supplied the frames to JCI.

Thanks I was about to make the same clarification.

 

Johnson Controls makes makes air bags.....I am guessing the seat airbag system is from Johnson Controls. the frame manufacturer, at least on mine is some other German company. bottom line is that no Recaro stickers were in my seats ( )......
