Electric Sunroof Questions

Hi,

  1. To close my sunroof, I push the button once and it closes to the open vent position. I then have to hold the button to close it all the way. Is this normal?
  2. Twice in the last month I've pushed the button once and the sunroof has closed halfway. After pushing the button again, it closes to the open vent position. Is this some kind of hidden feature? Or is my sunroof about to go?
Thanks.

1= normal
2= might need some lube...but have had this happen...no issues. A tiny bit of grease after cleaning the tracks with a rag and maybe some wd-40...
The OEM grease is not widely available, but a good red/blue grease, like mobil1 seems to be fine.

Same here. Keeping things clean up there helps too. Greasing things up may not work if things are dirty with grit and debris. Clean up as best you can then lubricate. Sunroof is ten years old with no problems.

I'm thinking to clean/lubricate mine when I wash the car this weekend.

I have some Liquid Wrench spray that I got a while back for the garage door chain. I can't remember exactly which formula it is.

It sprays on as liquid to seep into tiny crevasses, but then dries and does not seem any more sticky than say a dry bar of soap. -Seems to me this would be good, and limit the amount of dirt that sticks

I also have some white (lithium) grease in a tube.

Which do you think would be most like the OEM, or should I just get the blue/red mobile one stuff?

Not sure which would be better, but a little grease goes a long way...
So just try to clean up the current stuff....heck if grease and dust/sand/dirt is mix, it can become a bit of an abrasive... So IMO, do the best you can to wipe up the old stuff, then try the one you want...
My gut feeling is the lithium one is to thin to stay put...and might even attract dirt when hardens...I've used tubes/sprays of it on stuff...and it seems to change with time...getting kinda hard...
I just bought big tube of mobil1 syenthic grease, says universal, water resistant...just used a tiny bit on the tracks...run it a few times...is a red grease. Blue grease tends to have be similar. But just stressing...a tiny amount goes a long way!! Heck...I might have the same cardboard tube in my garage till I'm old and gray...heck it might be 5 years old...have only used a few fingertips worth...great for things like latches, hinges, etc.
