Since Premium 93 octane gas has already gone north of $2 per gallon here in Miami, I have found myself limiting the amount of motoring I do in my S on a daily basis...strictly the necessary errands of the day.

While a MINI is 1000 times more economical than any SUV on the road today, still $22 a week in gas is a lot, IMO.

Do you find yourself today planning your motoring miles and driving routes more than ever before?

Nope, just did a 2000 mile trip. Premium 93 is $1.99 here in N Delaware. The cheapest I saw it last week was was $1.84 in Macon, GA. The highest was $2.14 in Key West, FL.

No, I just laugh harder at the SUV behemoths. But I don't drive very much anyway - most weeks are under 100 miles.

I too just took my S on a road trip from chicago to south florida. Gas was expensive. The least expensive was $1.89. It mostly hovered around $2.
Now that I am home, I try to make one trip and hit all the spots I need to... dry cleaning, grocery store, mom's house LOL

Well I have limited my driving time some but the Cooper S isn't any better gas mileage that an SUV getting about 23 mpg on regular gas. Wait it is but the price in gas makes it the same cost wise.

Slightly off topic, not totally.

Just this weekend I heard my SUV driving neighbors complaining about the price of gas and how they will have to sell their SUV. I said, "hey, it is you, SUV driving heavy consumers, that cause the problem in the first place, so get something that is more economical."
They responed that they would love an Excursion that got 40mpg or more.
I said," why do you need something that big?"
(I told them about my mini order cuz I just can't help but tell the world. I am so excited!)
they responed," to drive the kids around" and they couldn't go any smaller.

THEY EACH HAVE 1 KID, I don't get it!

I have curbed my driving a bit, here in CA regular is about 2.2/gallon today. I have stopped going out for luch cuz it is a waste of gas. I like going out for lunch

Ha Ha Ha. I just laugh at people who don't realize that children are actually quite small and do not require a huge truck to transport them.

My parents have 3 children and they did not need anything more than a regular car to transport our family when we were growing up.

No, I'm driving more.

Just installed a Milltek header & catback.

I'm acting just like when the car was brand new (21 months, 36,000 miles): I look for any excuse to drive, take longer routes, & cruise around one gear lower - just to listen to that sweet exhaust note.

Still getting mileage in the lower 20's for mostly city driving (well, 2 lane country roads when ever I can).

Nope.. Still motoring along, excited as always! It's hit the Bay area with premium prices at around 2.40/gallon.. My last fillup was 26 bucks.

Don't play if you can't pay.

No, I'm not THAT cheap where I can't afford to drive my car wherever I want because I'm paying an extra $5.00-8.00 to fill it up every time.

No change for me since the inflation-adjusted gas prices really haven't changed much in the last 8 years and they are almost as low as 50 years ago.

Motor-on and don't sweat it.

Gas price mania cracks me up.
You pay ~$20K for a car but stress over a $20 fillup?!

Don't get me wrong - I'm a small car person and I avoid wasteful short trips, but to drastically change your habits for $25/month* kills me.
*15K miles = 1250/month @ 25mpg = 50 gal. In CA, 91 was 1.75, now $2.25

winechic - you save enough in meal costs not going out to lunch once to pay for the delta of the price rise for a full tank. Live!

If in an MCS, you're willing to pay $3K+ to get worse gas mileage. Why? Because it's FUN! Don't squander that $20-25K investment.
It's easy to focus on gas prices because they're posted everywhere, but in the grand scheme it doesn't mean much.

Substitutes for that $25
6 beers in a bar - share a six pack with friends
a nice bottle of wine - two buck chuck
a night at the movies - rent a video
I could go on, but you get my point. Don't you?

Don't worry. I suspect the price will level off
at around $3 a gallon and that is still one
of the greatest bargains out there. I am glad
I quit smoking when those death sticks reached
a buck though.

Great for you!!! Believe it or not, my dad quit cold-turkey when they went to $0.25 a pack.

He's going to be 80 years old next month!

I love all the posts...funny.
But I don't cut back on having fun with my Mini at all.
Gas is the least expensive thing in my life---probably yours too.

I bought my MINI for the amount of gas it only uses, not the cost of that gas
Don't get remote start, get in ,turn on the car ,and go ,I do at -45F and 95F
nothing wastes gas more than sitting, with the engine running

The MINI has won awards for being a clean burning car,one more economy reason to buy the car, over the long term.
I for one hope my MINI lasts long enough to get me to some other fuel than gasoline

Not really, It is a 15 mile drive to the nearest town. It is not that I have stopped all together going to lunch, just not daily any more. I am not cheep, It is the principle of the thing that makes me mad.

Also, on the two buck chuck, that would be way too expensive 'cause I would have to drink a few six packs, and a nice bottle of wine before I would even go there.
Not that two buck chuck is bad or anything.
