Motor Mount R&R Experience

Taking a break from replacing my upper motor mount.
BRUTAL!!!
The mount leaked hydraulic fluid all over the place and the previous owner didn't do anything about it.
Problem is that the hydraulic fluid seeped into the area where the bottom torx bolt screws into the mount. Everything in there was corroded.
When I tried to unscrew the bottom torx bolt it snapped. Thought the mount would just lift out regardless. WRONG!
It was stuck pretty good. Had to whack it with a sledgehammer to get it out.
Then I needed to clean out the hole so the new bolt could go back in.
After that everything else went smoothly.
So just a word of caution, if your mount starts to leak, that's a sign to hurry up and change it out before it causes more damage.
One other thing I noticed. In some other DIY's it says that the bolts are 17mm.
On my 06 I found the bolts to either be 16mm or 18mm.

Same here, 16 & 18mm. This might get a laugh.. I took an old wooden spoon from the kitchen, it's dowl-rod like handle was just the right size to wrap a paper towel around (the hefty blue shop type), saturate it with some degreaser, and ram it in and out of that hole in the frame rail to clean it out. Obviously this tool will never return to the kitchen. I now keep it next to my turkey baster in the garage.

Ha!
That's using what you have handy!
I had to hammer one of the bracket bolts down the hole.
Shot it with brake cleaner than used WD40 to coat it.

I don't expect mine to last though, got the oem one cause it was less expensive for now. Next time I'll put a Polly euro thane one in there. Probably tsw or vibra technics.

Glad you got yours changed. Sounds like your ingenuity got the job done.

I prefer to keep mine stock to keep vibration in check.
Car is for my wife so it's not going to be tracked or driven aggressively! LOL!
Still have a long list of things to do.
Cooling system, suspension, the list goes on and on! :(
