Looks really good so far. Once you have the model complete, how are you planning on making the mold? Are you going to have it CNC machined? Will the part be plastic injection molded?

I can't wait for someone to design and make a larger hood scoop for the R53's......something cheaper than the M7 version.

On the other hand, about the scoop... Yesterday I took mine apart hahaha, and really the air that goes in to the engine bay. Meaning the gap is really not much larger than the oem scoop, so in the end it is limited by that gap. So what you really want is just a BIG *** scoop that end up in practically the same amount of air? Or what?
pretty much. a happy medium between looking badass, additional performance is a plus, while not creating too much additional drag.

that would be the best case scenario. but i know that would also probably be quite a bit of work to figure out all the details.

Another question... About the scoop, you only want the scoop or the panel that comes behind it too? That would increase the cost but would definitely give a kick *** look on carbon fiber!
i would say just the scoop. im not looking for carbon fiber. ive also removed the liner attached to the hood, and have a ddm air diverter so the peice inaide the hood is gone too.

If you have a scoop with a bigger opening in the front (like the M7), it will grab more air because the opening has a larger surface area compared to the stock scoop opening. Yes, the opening at the rear of the scoop will be around the same size as the stock scoop….but because you are getting more air in the front of the scoop opening, you should be developing more pressure…..giving you more airflow out the back of the scoop and across the intercooler. From the tests I’ve seen with the M7 “extreme” scoop…..it does in fact pull in more air, and do a better job of flowing more air across the stock intercooler….making the intake air temps lower than what they would be with the stock scoop.

Here is a picture showing the M7 extreme scoop

the venturi effect is preety simple, its like normal traffic in a four lane highway, go down to two lanes with the same # of cars, those cars have to go subtaintially faster.

since we cannot increase pressure greatly, its taking a volume and putting it through a smaller area, this in effect makes the air traveling faster.

i also have the liner removed, no need for that plastic piece!

And whatever you do don't make anything for the R56. None of us R56 owners have any money and are completely satisfied with M7 only being the hood scoop king. A stock R56 cooper S wing extension would sell well. The only company that makes them is NM engineering and they are 480 dollars :/

I have the alta diverter, which come up a bit further to the scoop, then theres a rubber seal that comes within 1/4 inch of the scoop, sides are sealed, top is sealed. i even had foam just take make sure, they eventually came off due to engine heat, and it had no difference.

i know im getting air there since air will not take a direct 90* corner in such a small area, the air flow will not be greatly reduced. if were actually create a flow path, i would bet that my assumtions are correct

at the very leaste it would be a turbulet flow, which likes to flow along the boundary layer longer than a laminar flow. and the boundary layer would be from my scoop to the diverter

i can only support this since i have not seen a difference with the plastic thing or without in IATs, i dont have logged, but it feels like recovery is much better since the black plastic doesnt hold in heat. but im sure that would also come in handy keeping some heat out on a really hot sunny day beating on the hood =)

in newhampshire, we dont have many days like that, and ussually im on the motorcycle anyways

I'm sorry I thought I was obviously being sarcastic.

Definitely in for a wing extension and hood scoop. I don't mind the M7 scoops but for the money they aren't super special.

Cant wait to see what you come up with.

I think the more rectangular cutouts look the best. The circular cutouts seem odd. Either way looks like you're making progress. Anxious to see how your molds turn out

keep in mind, less surface area, less effective.

i think the more straight edged models look better, but would be more efficient with slightly smaller cutouts.

I would be in for a hood (bonnet) scoop if you make it for an R53.

Depending on price I'd be in for one of each
